Manager, Industry Development

The Manager Industry Development is responsible for working across the Industry Development team and the broader department in driving industry development policy and strategies to leverage internal and external opportunities to strengthen industry and sector development.

Our group works to build trust-based relationships with Victorian businesses, from global enterprises to small businesses and start-ups, to achieve job outcomes that strengthen our economy. We do this by facilitating and enabling new investments, developing and attracting world class talent, supporting key industry capabilities, building on the state's reputation for innovation and advocating for a competitive and fair business environment that creates more jobs.

This position is within Industry Development branch, which sits within the Industry Development and Participation Branch. It has lead responsibility for developing industry strategies and policy and providing departmental and government coordination and responses specific to sectors across the economy.

The Manager Industry Development delivers high level industry wide strategies across a range of key sectors and broader engagement across the department and government to leverage opportunities and provides strategic advice on industrial policy and industry needs. Reporting to the Director, Industry Development, the key accountabilities will include:

  • Manage, develop and implement an industry development policy and approach across the department through industry engagement, development and implementation of sector strategies and delivery of key strategic initiatives.
  • Undertake comprehensive research, analysis of trends and identification of opportunities to inform focused strategies and approaches to develop the governments priorities across sectors and industries.
  • Prepare and present high-quality complex reports, submissions, briefings and correspondence for diverse stakeholders and senior decision makers.
  • Provide high-level advice to senior executives on industry policy opportunities and risks.
  • Engage with key stakeholders including local, State and Commonwealth Government agencies and industry, business and community stakeholders, and lead collaborative network development and partnership practice across the department, other departments and the wider portfolio agencies.
