About the Role

Reporting to Regional Head HR Asia-Pacific, you will support Swiss Re's commitment to be an employer of choice by effectively managing the HR operations in Australia to ensure all HR programmes and activities are properly implemented and conducted within the groupwide framework and in compliance with local regulations.

Your responsibilities include:

  • Support Regional Head HR APAC in driving and executing Swiss Re's People Agenda and Asia People Strategy across ANZ businesses and in the region
  • Act as a member of the APAC HR Leadership Team and collaborate closely with other Leadership Team members to run a commercial, compliant and engaged HR function in the region with discipline and rigour
  • Interpret the HR strategic directions from the regional/Group level and formulate corresponding implementation plans/strategies for the responsible locations. Where appropriate develop local strategic initiatives where regional/Group does not meet needs
  • Act as a member of the ANZ Leadership Team (including P&C Re, L&H Re and iptiQ) and Management Committee of Corso ANZ
  • Act as Secretary to the ANZ Board Remuneration Committee
  • Act as HR Business Partner for P&C Underwriting APAC
  • Manage the local HR team in Australia to deliver efficient and effective operational human resources services, e.g. payroll, benefit administration, etc
  • Advise and coordinate with line management to resolve day-to-day human resources related matters or issues, e.g. performance management, employee relations, staffing, compensation etc. Act as a bridge between employees and the line management in disputes, conflicts
  • E nsure the organisation is staffed with qualified talents by partnering closely with the line management in recruitment and selection
  • R ecommend and implement appropriate human resources programs, policies and procedures to support the local business operations
  • Maintain market intelligence on compensation and benefits to ensure Swiss Re’s competitiveness in attracting and retaining quality people
  • Support respective business units to develop the annual HR plan (headcount and personnel costs) for the region. Perform necessary HR control functions to track, analyze and monitor any variances and report to HR Regional Centre Asia on a regular basis
  • Network with other local, regional, and group Human Resources organizations to share best practices, maintain fairness and consistency across locations, and align with group directions
  • Keep close watch of the development of local employment market and legislation to ensure full legal compliance in each location. Also ensure personal and team actions are compliant with SR code of conduct and APRA requirements
  • Other ad-hoc HR activities or projects as directed by Regional Head HR APAC or the Group

About the Team

You will be a member of the APAC HR Leadership Team and collaborate closely with other Leadership Team members and CoEs (Reward, Organisation & People Development, HR Service Delivery & Business Management) to run a commercial, compliant and engaged HR function in the region. Your specialisation covers HR Generalist Consultancy, HR Buiness Partnering and day-to-day HR Operations such as payroll. You will manage a team of 4 employees and may be requested to act as a mentor to other HR team on specific HR workstreams.

About You


  • Appropriate tertiary Degree, or optionally Masters;


In-depth knowledge and understanding of HR in a professional services environment, comprehensive knowledge of HR management processes, philosophies and strategy

Working experience in multinational company(s) with multinational and multicultural workforce

Adaptability to work in a matrix organisation and appreciation of cross-functional co-operation

People leadership, coaching/mentoring and influencing skills

High degree of independence and initiative

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

Can cope with several tasks at the same time

  • Detail-oriented and hands-on
  • Analytical and computer literate
  • Knowledge of employment legislation in the responsible location/region
  • Extensive experience in the insurance/finance industry
  • Extensive HR technical and performance management experience
