The opportunity


The primary focus of this role is to enable the provision of infrastructure technical services and influence the outcomes of large-scale complex programs across the Western Parklands and Central River Cities, supporting innovative and safe design for the successful delivery of these projects working under a matrix model. It’s an opportunity for you and your team to influence the landscape of Sydney contributing to technical design and innovative construction techniques to both greenfield and brownfield projects. We recognise the interaction and interfaces of the entire transport network encompassing, rail, roads, cycle ways, and ferries, as such it’s important you understand the multi-modal model context and how to best deliver complex programs with overlapping deliverables and varied stakeholders. Additionally, the role will present as a great leadership and management opportunity, the immediate team is around 6 direct report and a total team size of 9, you will be working collaboratively with a 75+ strong team of civil and structural engineers, road designers, pavement and geotechnical scientists and other technical specialists who are under the remit of the hub Technical Director to which this position reports. While the current team is primarily focused on providing client side technical due diligence to the rail space (for example Transport Access Program Station upgrades and Commuter Carpark Upgrades) the team needs to continue to develop it’s multi-modal skills and ensure it is appropriately sized to meet increasing project needs.

Key knowledge and experience

  • Highly developed collaborative style encompassing empathy and support, resource planning and management expertise
  • Demonstrated ability to engage and influence stakeholders in a complex infrastructure environment
  • Ability to work through complex technical and interface issues in a practical way and from different perspectives, and develop sound reasoning for course of action
  • Innovative thinker with experience embedding new ideas into an organisation, process or service offerings
  • Tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline.
