Job Description

Workday’s enterprise applications are positively disrupting the market and transforming how businesses operate and make decisions in today’s ever evolving global market. Workday’s list of engaged customers in Australia is growing and as a result we’re now looking to expand our Public Sector offering with dedicated resources allocated to establishing Workday’s innovative platforms within the Australian Government sector. To support this investment, Workday is looking to hire a Legal Director to support the expansion of our public sector customer base.

We see this as a truly exciting opportunity for a professional who sees themselves as a builder and pathfinder in that you’ll be laying down the foundations for future success, helping Workday capitalise on the strong headwind of interest and apply an innovative perspective on the future of cloud based enterprise management software. In addition, we are also of the belief that this role will take on a front seat in terms of helping Australia’s government agencies and departments transform how they look at SaaS and unblock the challenges and inconsistencies of procurement and sourcing.

About the Role

Workday Australia is scaling it’s public sector team this year and this role will be a key member of this team. The role will pay a key role in a number of ways:

Partner closely with Sales and provide legal support for RFPs and complex outbound sales negotiations for Australian federal and other public sector opportunities, as well as strategic leadership and counsel for the development of Workday’s growing public sector business.

Provide strategic guidance and support to align Workday’s legal and compliance framework to address local market requirements.

Partner closely with Sales and local partners to facilitate more tactical approaches to opportunity engagement;

Engage in early and deeper engagement with government/ government agencies, directly and via trade and industry groups, chambers of commerce, and similar organizations, to uncover new opportunities for SaaS solutions in the public sector

This role will report to the Senior Director and Associate General Counsel (APJ) and will have significant interaction with the company’s sales and services management business units, and customers nationwide. Workday has recently been added to the Digital Transformation Agency, Whole of Government panel for cloud service providers and our Australia based Data Centre is soon to go live.

What are we looking for:

We are seeking an outstanding lawyer who can help Workday land and grow our Public Sector customer base. We’ll be looking for an individual who is intrinsically motivated and inspired to make a positive and long term impact. The ideal candidate will be a true field leader and possess an executive presence that will make them effective and persuasive in dealing with and building relationships with customers as well as senior management and business executives. A proven track record of leading complex public sector transactions, initiatives, and in developing public sector strategy will be key

When we are reviewing applications for this fantastic opportunity, we’ll ideally looking for the following:

LLB from a recognised university and licensed to practice in Australia

Experience within a leading software or technology company with recent focus on Australian federal, territory and state government

Specific experience in a SaaS, cloud computing, enterprise software or social network environment is highly valued

Excellent deal making, contract negotiation and drafting skills

Superior business judgment and the ability to address complex opportunities and issues in creative and effective ways

Ability to see around corners to identify opportunities and issues in our market space and participate fully with the business teams charting our future sales directions in this space

Significant experience in handling complex contracts and licensing arrangements, and resolving complex disputes, is highly valued, as is experience counseling organizations on public sector requirements and compliance issues

Meticulous attention to detail and ability to manage multiple transactions and projects simultaneously under deadline pressure
