About the team

The Freight Branch is part of Customer Strategy and Technology Division and lead and coordinate the safe, productive and sustainable movement of goods in and through NSW.

The Operations Function will lead network management for Freight Branch, including responsibilities for approving access for freight operators on the road and rail network; improving the safety, productivity and sustainability of freight movement through network and fleet innovations; and monitoring the efficiency of the movement of freight in NSW.

The Opportunity

A role now exists for a Director, Access to lead the role of TfNSW in access approval for rail freight operators under the Rail Access Undertaking and access for operators of restricted access vehicles under the Heavy Vehicle National Law.

Using strong relationships cultivated from within the network and under the guidance of road and rail access law, this senior service role ultimately seeks to improve freight access efficiencies and connectivity across both the road and rail networks.

Responsibilities include;

  • Thinking laterally and creatively to devise solutions to often complex access scenarios
  • Building relationships with and influencing external agencies (e.g. private sector infrastructure, NSW councils and other jurisdictions) involved in access decisions to achieve positive outcomes using logic, evidence driven data and power of reasoning.
  • Working in close collaboration with project development and project delivery teams to ensure that projects are designed and constructed to accommodate the needs of the end user.

About You

You preferably have strong experience in the provision of road and/or rail access in Australia.

You must be a forward ‘out of the box‘thinker with a systematic approach and not afraid to challenge the status quo. Someone who is able to deliver customer outcomes through quality decision making.

You have an ability to cultivate and sustain good relationships in external agencies, be a strong influencer and effective communicator.

As this is a leadership role, you must have a demonstrated ability to build and sustain strong effective teams

Tertiary qualifications in a relevant field (preferred but not essential)
