How this position will Make the Difference to City of Melbourne…

Our Technology and Digital Innovation (TDI) Branch is currently on an exciting customer-led journey to move to a “platform and adaptive ways of working” approach and transform its operating model. This new way of working is to support City of Melbourne (CoM), realise the full value of its technology assets, deliver modern digital tools for our staff and community, empower staff and community to make evidence-based decisions, and prepare CoM and Melbourne to benefit from digital disruption.

As the Head of Data, Analytics and Insights and as a member of the TDI Leadership Team, you will take a customer-led approach to help to drive city and organisational efficiency through the timely and intuitive provision of relevant data, evidence and insights. Through a transformative strategy you will seek to improve overall branch performance, culture, ways of working, business value of IT, data investments and products, and future preparedness. You will also be responsible for leading the governance and consolidation of our data platforms as part of our Cloud transition plan.

Your key objectives will be to drive customer advocacy, realise benefits from investments in technological and people capabilities, and to be a trusted advisor and partner to the business. Through your consultative leadership style, you will foster a positive and productive dialogue to influence outcomes aligned to TDI and CoM objectives utilising a self-initiated proactive approach.

  • Ability to demonstrate and display City of Melbourne Values – accountability, integrity, courage, respect for self and others, and striving for excellence.
  • A relevant tertiary qualification in technology, economics, mathematics, statistics or business.
  • Proven and significant experience developing and delivering data strategies in complex organisations.
  • Deep understanding of contemporary data management practices, familiarity with advanced data science approaches.
  • Extensive experience in managing teams delivering products with both qualitative and quantitative research methodologies, including advanced analytics (e.g. machine learning).
  • Deep understanding of the principles, best practices and regulations governing data in the Victorian Public Sector.
  • Proven digital or technology experience with emerging visualisation and engagement tools, and core technology platforms.
  • Proven and significant experience leading product teams in an agile environment.
  • Highly developed consulting skills, adept at establishing a trusted expert advisory role with senior stakeholders.
  • Proven significant experience in providing strategic and expert advice on issues related to improving the analytical and data-driven decision-making capability of an organisation.
  • Strong influencing, communication, collaboration and negotiation skills with demonstrated experience to engage and influence partners and stakeholders at all levels.
  • Proven experience in presenting at industry forums.
