About the Opportunity

The Communications and Engagement Officer is accountable for supporting the development and delivery of Stakeholder Communications and Engagement plans according to the requirements for the Metropolitan and Suburban portfolio This is an ideal position for a Communications or PR graduate to apply for, with one/two years experience (optional).

The role duties are as follows

  • Develop well written and appropriately selected collateral, such as letters, postcards and other public materials support engagement activities.
  • Ensure stakeholder and community enquiries, feedback and issues are taken into consideration and responded to in a timely manner.
  • Communications issues are proactively identified and mitigated with the support of their Manager.
  • Work with the online engagement subject matter expert to use this platform to communicate with stakeholders, gather their input and close the loop with respondents.
  • Support the development of communications and engagement plans to deliver effective programs and projects.
  • Work collaboratively across the Strategic Communications and Engagement division for coordinated, consistent and collegiate approaches to the work of DoT, particularly through partnerships in Marketing for well executed campaigns to support the broader narrative.
  • Prepare reports and briefs for consideration by key stakeholders on critical issues and updates to achieve positive project and program objectives and to enhance DoT external reputation.
  • Develop and consider key opportunities to proactively and positively increase the profile of the region and the work underway to support the Greater Melbourne community.
  • Other communications and engagement duties as required.

About You

  • Possess experience in communications and/or community engagement with a demonstrated ability to prepare effective communications collateral, and support the development of plans for this area.
  • Ability to identify reputational and communications issues and risks as they emerge and escalate to management.
  • Ability to successfully manage competing priorities and project tasks to ensure project milestones are achieved and deadlines met.
  • Well-developed written skills, especially in writing information that will be leveraged for external audiences.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with project partners and other internal stakeholders to achieve communications goals and objectives.
  • Demonstrated initiative with proven ability to work as part of a team, proactively contributing to and providing support to other team members as the demand arises.
