JOB DESCRIPTION

Footscray Hospital Emergency Department is looking for a a dynamic Emergency Physician and excellent clinical leader to be its next Deputy Director. This leadership role involves navigating the continuum from individual patient care through to hospital administration, and the interfaces that support staff to provide Best Care. With New Footscray Hospital planned to open in 2025, this position will be important in guiding the department towards this exciting development.

To be Successful in this Role you

  • Hold a Fellowship of the Australasian College for Emergency Medicine
  • Support the Director and the Nurse Unit Manager in leadership, governance, and quality and safety activities
  • Model traits of a leader, supporter, manager, student and expert clinician
  • Have developed skills in effecting change in a complex system
  • Successfully manage the clinician and administrator interface

The Footscray Hospital Emergency Department sees over 40,000 predominantly adult presentations per year, providing assessment, investigations, and treatment to patients who present for urgent and emergency care. A 12-bed Emergency Observation Unit provides extended emergency management for patients requiring short term observation and treatment. With a recent uplift in Emergency Physicians, there are soon to be 13 EFT of Emergency Physicians, with shared responsibility with Sunshine Emergency Department for the supervision and training of nearly 40 EFT of registrars, both training and non-training with ACEM, along with multiple interns and HMOs.

Our continued growth has seen the addition of a new purpose built, multi-storey Joan Kirner Women's and Children's Hospital, the ongoing expansion of the Emergency Department at Sunshine Hospital, and the planning of a New Footscray Hospital in 2025.
