The Finance department operates on a global basis with a local presence in key markets supported by shared service centres. The Group Chief Financial Officer has overall responsibility for all aspects of finance, reporting to Fidelity International’s CEO. There are several distinct teams contributing to the overall CFO function. These currently include Finance, Procurement, Treasury, Corporate Property Services and Strategy and Planning. Finance includes group functions in Financial Control, Reporting and Analysis as well as regional or channel-based teams.

The Chief Financial Officer for Asia Pacific oversees the finance function and wider CFO functions in the region, working on a day-to-day basis with the regional management teams. Responsibilities in Finance include business partnering, the financial accounting for Fidelity’s legal entities, and the provision of management information and insight, capital planning and management, monitoring of financial controls, and ensuring Finance compliance with the requirements of the relevant regulators across each region.

Group Finance has overall responsibility for the consolidation of the group results and rely on the quality of control at the local level.

In Asia the finance department is based in Dalian, Sydney, Tokyo, Hong Kong, Taipei and Seoul. The largest team is a shared service team based in Dalian, China. Fidelity in Asia Pacific currently operates in Hong Kong, Japan, Australia, Taiwan, Singapore, Korea and China. There are 14 offices across this region. The region also currently has responsibility for the Middle East and South Africa.

Purpose of your role

The purpose of this role is to support Fidelity’s future China AMC Business, providing insight and challenge, as well as ensuring all aspect of relevant Finance related regulatory compliance are met

  • Business partnering with the China AMC business heads at President level and below. This will include supporting all senior management in understanding the drivers of their business to improve business performance. The role covers pricing, management reporting, client analysis, data validation, cost control and ad hoc analysis. Gaining an understanding of all aspects of Fidelity’s business will be a key building block for success in this role.
  • Managing and developing the Finance team in Shanghai, which is currently expected to grow once we achieve the AMC licence and move the product launch phase.
  • Working closely with Finance colleagues globally to ensure that the performance of the China AMC is understood and supported appropriately
  • Managing the delivery of finance support to the China AMC by working with outsourced internal service providers.
  • Ensuring that all Finance related regulatory requirements are completed and submitted to the highest standard and on time.
  • This role will be the key contact and has accountability for these regulatory returns, including ad-hoc regulatory requests. Judgement must be applied to these returns, by the Head of Finance.
  • Proactive support to the Asia Pacific CFO and be a key leader in the AP CFO team, particularly focussing on the development of teams in the Dalian Finance shared service centre

    The role will involve some travel within China and may include travel within Asia Pacific.

Key Responsibilities

Provide Financial insight and challenge to all key stakeholders in the China AMC. This includes significant contribution to the strategic direction of the business As a senior member of the China AMC management team, exercise judgement, where required, in all aspects of the financial reporting, including taxation, financial statements and regulatory returns. Ensure that the required Financial returns (regulatory, financial statements and tax) are completed and submitted correctly and on time Contribute to the overall success of the business and understand the operations across all departments Ensure, where possible, that financial reporting drives decision making, rather than just being used as a review of past performance Manage the expectations of, and deliverables to, key internal customers including the President of the AMC, Directors and FIL regional and group reporting teams. Manage the Finance and Tax service delivery from all internal providers within the Fidelity Group Manage and build external relationships with counterparties, such as external auditors, external regulators, taxation authorities. Provide regular business forecasts for the China AMC. Understand, validate and decide on the capital and liquidity requirements for the China AMC, working with group and regional functions to ensure that the requests are valid, appropriate and well understood, Identify opportunities for efficiencies and productivity enhancements within the China AMC, collaborate with other teams to implement continuous improvement initiatives and optimise resource allocations. Set the objectives for and support the personal development of all team members Contribute to design and implementation of processes and procedures within the China AMC including project governance, procurement and cost management Ensure the development and maintenance of a sound financial control environment. Be risk aware and escalate all issues in a timely manner. Contribute to the ongoing improvement of information systems Ensure all ad hoc deliverables are turned out to expectation or higher in a timely fashion Accountable as the independent Finance assessor for pricing cases, being responsible for the development of, and adherence to, the China AMC Pricing Policy.

Experience and Qualifications Required

  • A relevant post graduate qualification in accounting with wide ranging experience at a senior management level, within a complex, matrixed environment. Knowledge/experience of the asset management industry would be highly advantageous
  • Demonstrable experience building and managing high performing teams, with evidence of a staff development ethos
  • Experience of working within a “Big Four” Professional Services firm would be useful
  • Demonstrable experience of successfully navigating a matrixed organisation
  • A strong and current understanding of the Chinese regulatory environment as it relates to Asset Management Companies is preferred
  • Excellent communication and relationship management skills, with the capability to influence, challenge and liaise at all levels within the organisation in Mandarin and English
  • Senior level presence, with the capability to build credibility and gain trust and respect at senior management levels both within Fidelity and externally
  • Must be numerate, with advanced analytical skills, capable of designing and producing analysis and translating that analysis into a business story
  • Proactive focus and depth of thought is required with a can-do attitude. Individual must possess the ability to anticipate requirements, obstacles and have plans to address them
  • Proven ability to manage and resolve complex issues
  • Project and change management experience, with a strong track record in process improvement is particularly important as the AMC grows
  • High degree of responsiveness with quick, high quality, turn around and impeccable follow up and consistently high level of attention to detail with a focus on exceeding expectations.
  • An ability to work independently, with proven track record of exercising good judgement when faced with uncertainties
  • Ability to balance strategic requirements of the job with the need to drill down to the detail where appropriate, with a consistently high level of attention to detail
