About the team

The Sydney Metro Project Management Office (PMO) is a large team of multi-disciplinary specialists, responsible for cost, schedule, risk, quality, change, and reporting activities in our three capital works mega-programmes. Part of our Projects Division, the PMO drives the project controls effort in realising efficient, high-quality outcomes of the Metro capital investment.

The opportunity

We have an opportunity for a Director Portfolio Alignment and Performance to join Australia’s biggest public transport infrastructure program, reshaping transport solutions and making a genuine difference for the people of NSW. This role will lead a small, newly-formed Capital Works Portfolio Management team, supporting the three mega-programmes and driving the technological uplift of the PMO. In this role, you will have the opportunity to collaborate with world-class Project Controls specialists and support overall delivery efficiency through your leadership of Portfolio-level reporting, data-centric PMO/project performance analytics, and robust stewardship of the PMO management framework and related systems. Your relationship building skills will help uplift the people and process maturity of the Portfolio.

This role will support Projects Division leaders in achieving strong Capital Portfolio outcomes, by driving the realisation of cross-Programme alignment efficiencies.

About you

  • Capacity to successfully juggle broad responsibilities and complex issues at senior organisational levels, in a fast-paced and evolving delivery environment
  • You will bring a risk-based lens to the role, working with Programme PMO teams to help identify and collaboratively manage Portfolio-wide issues and opportunities
  • You will ideally have experience leading systems-/technology-based capability uplift initiatives, especially relating to Building Information Management/Digital Engineering
  • You will understand the importance and challenges of consolidated Programme reporting and information management, and be constantly looking for ways to enhance quantitative, predictive analytics capabilities to support better senior decision-making
  • You will appreciate the time-sensitive, dynamic nature of service delivery teams, and be comfortable prioritising and managing multiple concurrent initiatives
  • You will be an inclusive and persuasive communicator, from Board audiences to site teams – and you will be able to rapidly understand high-level concepts, problems, & directions, and fill in the gaps
  • You will understand the challenges and opportunities of working within a matrix-based organisation, and of collaborating with multiple deployed teams
