Chief Executive Officer

Location: All Brisbane > Brisbane

Worktype: Full Time
Salary: to
Profession / Role: Executive > CEO/MD

Employer: Dean & Ling Pty Ltd

Description:

The Local Government Association of Queensland (LGAQ) is the peak body for Queensland's 77 councils, advocating on their behalf at the State and Federal levels and securing critical funding, negotiating legislative and regulatory initiatives and reforms, while supporting councils' drive to innovate and improve their service delivery through smart services and sustainable solutions.

Formed in 1896, the LGAQ is one of the oldest and most stable peak organisations in Australia and is renowned for its innovative and ground-breaking policy development and business achievements in a vital sector that today employs more than 40,000 Queenslanders in some 200 professions.

As the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), you will lead the LGAQ to deliver on its strategic and operational objectives. The focus of the role is to connect Queensland Councils (often with 'boots on the ground'), advocate for their interests across all levels of government, promote the efficient performance of the sector in Queensland, and advise and counsel Members in matters of doubt or difficulty.

The CEO is expected to demonstrate inspirational, energetic leadership to the members and the organisation alike, providing a productive, results-oriented, safe and collaborative work environment for the Association's dynamic, diverse and inclusive workforce, while promoting and modelling high standards of conduct and behaviour. The position is responsible for supporting members - including Australia's largest council, councils larger than Tasmania and 17 First Nations members - whilst setting clear expectations, performance standards, values and behaviours that are integral to the fabric of a leading Membership Association.

Key Responsibilities will include:

  • Lead the LGAQ to deliver on strategic and operational objectives
  • Establish positive relationships and provide meaningful advice to members throughout Queensland
  • Ensure the LGAQ understands the diverse requirements of members and delivers solutions responsive to their needs
  • Build productive working connections with key government, community and business stakeholders to advocate for local government
  • Shape an organisational culture focused on respect, trust, integrity, accountability, empowerment, caring for staff and reputation.
  • Ensure sound governance processes and legislative compliance apply across all LGAQ entities including maintaining accreditation as a Registered Employer Organisation
  • Negotiate productive agreements and partnerships with a broad range of stakeholders
  • Analyse and interpret complex legal and business matters and provide advice and solutions that address members best interests

To be considered for this opportunity, you will need to demonstrate outstanding contemporary stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to build strong, productive and collaborative relationships. You will have proven analytical capacity and decisiveness, with experience in developing entrepreneurial and innovative approaches to the development of strategies, policies, plans and projects. You must possess outstanding integrity and professionalism, exceptional communication skills across consultation, advocacy, negotiation, and conflict resolution and experience in leading an organisation of the size, scope, complexity and diversity as the Local Government Association of Queensland.

This successful applicant will bring a significant network of active contacts to the role and be equally adept at working successfully with both metropolitan and regional members. You will be expected to be available for travel throughout Queensland and Nationally.
