About the Role
  • NBMLHD Child and Youth Mental Health Service (CYMHS) provides assessment and a comprehensive range of therapeutic interventions for children and adolescents who are affected by moderate to severe mental health problems, or who have complex emotional and behavioural problems. CYMHS works in collaboration with the clients’ family and carers, as well as their broader support network.
  • CYMHS comprises five clinical teams; Assessment and Therapy, Assertive Response and Outreach, Early Psychosis Intervention, Got It! (Getting on Track in Time) and the Liaison Team. The Liaison Team comprises two liaison clinicians and a Consultation Liaison CNC2.
  • This liaison clinician position is responsible for providing a safe and effective liaison service to internal and external services. This includes responding to enquiries, triaging and facilitating referrals, and providing assessment and crisis intervention for young people and their families across the Nepean Blue Mountains Local Health District.
  • The RN liaison position is also responsible for providing a timely response to presentations to the local hospitals’ Emergency Departments, Nepean Hospital’s Triage and Assessment Centre, and the Psychiatric Emergency Care Centre, and to paediatric admissions as required.

Selection Criteria:

Current registration to practice as a Registered Nurse (Division 1) with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Authority (AHPRA) Post-registration qualification in child and adolescent mental health and at least three years’ experience in child and adolescent mental health services. Demonstrated experience and clinical skill in assessment, formulation and treatment planning for children and adolescents presenting with a wide range of mental health problems. Demonstrated ability to respond to crisis/acute presentations and an understanding of childhood trauma, child protection issues and domestic and other violence issues as they relate to child and adolescent mental health. Demonstrated organisational skills and ability to manage a complex and/or urgent workload with competing priorities. Demonstrated ability to liaise with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders. Demonstrated effective communication skills – written and verbal – and demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team. Current Driver's Licence and willingness to use for work purpose travel.
