The Opportunity

In this role you will lead a team of experienced and very talented strategists to shape BIG W’s strategic direction and agenda as part of the wider Woolworths ecosystem. You will work directly with the General Manager Customer Transformation & Strategy and the Managing Director of the business while holding an important position of horizontal leadership and influence within the organisation.

In your role, you will not only help us reach our ambition of becoming a purpose-led digital retailer, enabled by a great store network, but also help us put customers first through helping orchestrate and inform our core rhythms with great customer insights of qualitative and quantitative nature.

  • Lead a team of 4-5 talented strategists, typically out of top tier consulting and support and coach the group-wide strategy team (~60 team members on rotation through business units)
  • Inform BIG W’s most relevant decisions with customer insights and understanding
  • Organise and run the annual strategy cycle, updating our strategic priorities together with the Senior Management team
  • Manage and organise projects of strategic importance with your team
  • Deeply link through our agile quarterly rhythms to align quarterly priorities, Objectives and Key Results to our strategic agenda
  • Align and influence across the wider ecosystem to increase the total customer proposition thereof
  • Support the agile and business transformation of the business as part of the wider Customer Transformation team

About you

We’re looking for someone who has an exceptional ability to influence as well as establish and maintain strong relationships with our senior leadership team. To thrive in our high-performing and innovative culture you are driven and dynamic with a results orientation, positive work ethic and customer first mindset.

  • Executive level communication and engagement, including preparation of strategy updates to the Executive Committee and the Woolworths Board
  • Be a senior leader who is people focused and understands the importance of driving team culture
  • Have extensive experience in facilitating and partnering across the ecosystem to co-create and shape visions for the future
  • Deep experience and knowledge of strategic problem solving and frameworks, delivering large-scale projects and change management
  • Be passionate about enabling the transformation of a business
  • Significant experience with management consulting (ideally top tier) or business strategy for, including management experience. Retail / consumer market experience is strongly preferred
