Office of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic)

The Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) (DVC(A)) is a member of The University of Queensland’s senior executive team. The DVC(A) leads the University’s ongoing commitment to high-quality learning and teaching and promotes the provision of integrated services for students to support their successful learning and transition to employment.

The Pro-Vice Chancellor (Teaching and Learning) (PVC-T&L) has broad responsibility for the development and operationalisation of the University’s teaching and learning objectives and the development of appropriate human and physical capital. The PVC (T and L) leads the development of teaching and learning policy, including assessment.

The Portfolio consists of four key operational units charged with delivery — Academic Services Division (ASD), Student Affairs Division (SAD), the UQ Library (Library) and the Institute for Teaching and Learning Innovation (ITaLI). In addition the Office of the DVC(A) is responsible for the successful delivery of a broad range of initiatives and complex programs of work that are essential to the mission of the University.

About This Opportunity

Reporting to the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), the Director of the Office of the DVC(A) is part of Portfolio Leadership team and is responsible for leading and managing the multi-functional team charged with ensuring that the Office of the DVC(A) delivers on Portfolio and University objectives. Working with other Portfolio Directors, the Director of the Office of the DVC(A) makes a major contribution to the operations and performance of the Portfolio overall.

The Director will manage the daily operations of the Office of the DVCA and act as a point of contact and guidance to the Portfolio leadership in relation to other operational matters.

The Director will provide specialist advice to the University Executive and senior leadership teams on complex matters that span organisational boundaries providing a point of contact, advice and facilitation. Working with the Portfolio executive team, the Director will coordinate the portfolio’s strategy, internal planning, budgeting, reporting, risk assessment activity and operational effectiveness.

To be successful in this position, you will hold postgraduate qualifications and extensive relevant experience in a senior management role, or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.

You will have experience in a higher education institution, including at least five years in a position with a significant focus on high level planning, strategic development and problem-solving as well as experience in the execution and management of programs of work.

You will have demonstrated high level analytical and problem solving skills, an adaptive nature and excellent interpersonal and communications skills including a demonstrated ability to write for different audiences with clarity, accuracy and precision.
