• This is a newly created role, designed to provide strategic finance and business leadership to support the continued high performance and sustainability of the Court

About the Organisation

The Magistrates' Court of Victoria (MCV) has a long history of providing justice for the people of Victoria. The Court aims to be an innovative, accessible and responsive court that provides quality services to the Victorian community.

The Court determines in excess of 300,000 cases per annum at 51 venues at metropolitan and regional locations, equating to approximately 90 per cent of all cases that come before Victorian courts each year.

About the Role

We are seeking to appoint a dynamic and financially astute professional to the role of Director, Finance and Budget.

The Director, Finance and Budget is accountable to the Executive Director, Strategy and Corporate Services and is responsible for leading the Finance and Budget, Procurement and Contract Management, Risk and Compliance; and Data, Reporting and Analysis functions.

The role will be a member of the Executive Leadership Group and provide authoritative and strategic financial and business advice to the Chief Magistrate, Chief Executive Officer, leadership team and judiciary.

Critical to success in the role will be a service orientation, a commitment to excellence and the ability to work collaboratively with a range of stakeholders.

Your mandate will include a key focus on:

  • Leading a professional workforce to provide financial advisory services, budget and contract management, risk and compliance, data reporting and analysis functions across the Court.
  • Building and maintaining strong collaborative relationships with the MCV Executive, judiciary and other key stakeholders
  • Leading change, innovation and continuous improvement in systems and work processes and practices to achieve operational efficiencies.

About the Candidate

The ideal candidate will be a contemporary leader, experienced in providing authoritative advice on financial and budget management and business services. A detailed understanding of the Victorian Government budget and financial management frameworks is required.

Academic qualifications within a relevant accounting, business or economics related discipline are considered ideal. A minimum of 5 years' experience in a senior leadership role in an organisation of similar size and scope is advantageous.
