Strategy and Innovation within the Department of Planning, Industry & Environment (DPIE) is looking for a Director Strategy to join their team.

  • Ongoing full-time role available, based in Parramatta
  • Open to flexible working options including part-time and job share arrangements
  • TRP starting from $213k including superannuation, commensurate with experience

About the role

As a Director Strategy, you will provide leadership and direction to ensure the development and implementation of innovative strategies align with cluster priorities, as well as meet Government objectives and policy directions.


The Director Strategy will also provide expert advice to senior executives regarding current and emerging issues, and be responsible for challenging, testing and creating new thinking and strategic approaches for the cluster.

About you

You are a proactive and results driven senior executive, seeking a dynamic and challenging position. You will be someone who considers themselves to be a strategic thinker with extensive experience, knowledge and understanding of strategy development, methods and frameworks.

You will also be highly organised with strong resilience and demonstrated experience developing fresh ideas and innovative solutions to address complex problems. It is essential that you have strong executive level influencing skills as you will be responsible for conducting negotiations with stakeholders both inter-agency and whole of government, especially as emerging issues arise.

Additionally, you will be a proven thought leader who inspires and drives a high performing team as well as nurtures a healthy culture and develops capabilities to improve efficiencies and outcomes.

About us

The Strategy and Innovation team are focused on developing the long-term direction of the Department’s work and the roadmap for achieving its goals over the coming decades. As part of this work, we are responsible for identifying hurdles and challenges that may prevent the Department from achieving its goals and making recommendations to help overcome them. These may include policies, processes, procedures and ways of working that do not serve the Department effectively, and the recommendations will include necessary reforms to help the Department improve its services, activities and operating environment to realise its strategy.
