Full Job Description

If you’re looking to push yourself to the limit and take on one of the Army’s most demanding roles, you may be suited to becoming a Commando.

The Role:

A Commando is a Special Forces soldier who is screened, selected, trained and equipped to conduct Special Operations with a broad range of responsibilities.

In this role, you’ll perform tasks distinct to Commando units, which may include precision strike and direct action missions, reconnaissance and special recovery operations. You'll also support Defence domestic activities, with the potential to deploy overseas for exercises or operations.

You’ll be trained to use specialist weapons, equipment and tactics, and develop skills in adrenaline-pumping activities such as driving, parachuting, roping, helicopter extraction, demolition and use of heavy weapons. You'll acquire advanced survival skills and the ability to carry out high risk missions anywhere in the world.

Being a Commando is no ordinary career. It will challenge you to perform at a level past anything you will have encountered in your civilian life. However, intensive training will equip you with the mental and physical resources to operate in the variety of challenging operational settings you may face.

If you think you have what it takes, apply now for the September 2021 intake opportunities. Alternatively, if you’re interested in a combat role but feel you’re not quite ready to become a Commando, there are a range of other roles to consider; from Infantry Soldier and Artillery Operator, through to Combat Engineer or Armoured Vehicle Crew.

Salary

In the Army you'll get paid a good salary from day one regardless of your age, experience or qualifications. Upon commencing training, your starting salary will be approximately $50,145 per annum plus 16.4% superannuation and your pay will increase as you progress through training.

As a Commando, on completion of your initial military training and initial employment training, you could earn $121,911 per annum plus generous super.
