The Organisation

This Position is for 15 hours per week and Fixed Term 6 Month Contract 

This position requires working Thursdays from after school hours until early evening, Friday and Saturday during the days. 

There may be occasions where you will be required for after hours on a Thursday evening. 

The Role:

On behalf of our client, we are seeking a qualified Youth Engagement Officer for their Chill Out Program. In this role you will be responsible for: 

  • Working alongside Young People at Risk and providing immediate support and or referrals for relevant services.
  • This Role requires meeting with and speaking to Young People, assessing their needs and providing the supports they require. 
  • Coach and mentor internal staff and external stakeholders on positive behaviour support when working with young people.
  • Develop and maintain relationships and networks between communities and other stakeholders including government departments, non-government organisations, businesses and communities to improve outcomes for young people by guiding them towards positive recreational activities.
  • Work sensitively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander staff, children, young people, families and communities to provide culturally inclusive services and achieve sustainable outcomes within a culturally safe environment; assist to reduce the over-representation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children in care; work collaboratively with communities to keep children and families safe and connected to culture.
  • Perform position responsibilities in accordance with the Sanctuary Model of Care framework.

Essential Experience

  • Demonstrated ability to engage effectively and sensitively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, communities and organisations from different areas, together with an understanding on issues both historical and contemporary.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with youth to achieve improved outcomes in a community based setting.
  • Well developed communication and interpersonal skills to engage with a range of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver quality services underpinned by continuous improvement to meet the needs of stakeholders.
  • Intermediate computer skills with the ability to use Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle the challenges that occur in an organisation driven by change and innovation.
  • Well developed problem solving, decision making and negotiation skills.
  • Proven ability and willingness to support a culture of safety, legislative compliance, quality and continuous improvement.

Qualifications

  • Certificate IV in Child and Family Welfare, or a Behavioural Science and/or relevant experience.
  • Current accreditation in a positive behaviours support program.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the historical and contemporary issues affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
  • Current Driver’s Licence.
  • Possess a current National Police Certificate 
  • Possess Working with Children (Blue Card) 
  • Possess Licensed Care Service (Child Protection) – or the ability to acquire.

Salary & Benefits

The salary is $73,803.60PA - $79,415.44PA (ProRata for Part Time) + Super
