Associate, Global Markets (Middle East)

Global NSW articulates the Government's roadmap to grow world-leading industries, create great places to live and work, and connect NSW to the world. International engagement, including growing and diversifying trade and attracting new international business investment will be integral to achieving these objectives.

The Global Markets team are the NSW Government’s international experts. We coordinate the State’s Whole of Government international trade and investment strategy for key markets based on our deep understanding of market conditions and relationships with governments, business chambers and key multinational corporations.

The Team and the Role

The Trade team manages the NSW Government’s international trade and investment teams offshore, assists NSW businesses to succeed in international markets, supports the international education sector through Study NSW, manages NSW’s international relationships, and attracts global talent to the state.

We support trade and investment through our expanding network of offices in key international locations. Our international teams focus on growing exports by supporting NSW businesses reach their target offshore markets and attracting foreign direct investment into NSW for the Investment team to facilitate and ensure that investment is welcomed and retained.

If you are passionate about working in a team that has a real impact on the trade and investment agenda of Australia’s largest state, have experience working in the Middle East (or Americas or the UK for applicants interested in potential future vacancies with the Americas or UK and Europe teams), then this job is for you.

As Associate, Global Markets (Middle East), you will be responsible for delivering the NSW Government’s participation in Expo 2020, the World Expo hosted by Dubai in the United Arab Emirates from October 2021 to March 2022.

You will also help deliver NSW’s trade and investment strategy for this market. You will design and deliver market-focused trade, investment and government to government programs to maintain strong stakeholder relationships and grow NSW’s share of foreign direct investment and exports. You will work closely with our colleagues offshore, you will lead and work on a broad range of trade promotion and investment attraction initiatives as well as deliver business development, project management and international trade missions; all while working at the dynamic intersection of business and government.

You Will Also
  • Engage with senior business, government and ministerial leaders
  • Deliver complex projects to achieve outcomes for business and government
  • Communicate advice and insights to NSW Government Ministers and senior executives

Key Skills And Experience
  • Experience working in or with the Middle East. We also encourage candidates with experience working in the Americas, UK or Europe to apply, as we may have upcoming vacancies in our Americas and UK and Europe teams.
  • Advanced project management experience and skills in delivering complex international projects involving many stakeholders.
  • Highly organised with the ability to multi-task, plan and manage multiple stakeholders and deadlines.
  • Tertiary qualifications in international business, government, public policy, law, commerce, finance, or other relevant disciplines
  • Demonstrated international business and stakeholder engagement experience.
  • Ability to anticipate stakeholder needs and use initiative to identify and proactively mitigate risk.
  • Excellent negotiation and communication (written and verbal) skills.
  • Ability to function independently and perform work to expected standards with minimal supervision.
  • Demonstrated ability and desire to work collaboratively within a team and excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Experience working in trade promotion or investment attraction or private sector experience, particularly in NSW’s priority trade and investment sectors of food and beverage, health, fintech, and infrastructure.
