About the Opportunity

The School of Chemical Engineering is currently seeking a dedicated Research Assistant to work on the frother chemistry and its influence on coal flotation.

The successful applicant will be assisting the chief investigator conduct experiments in lab or plant trials during field trips. You will also help the chief investigator develop a decision tree based on predictive modelling approaches.

General duties and responsibilities also include, but are not limited to:

  • Independently working in the lab
  • Participate in and execute analyses, tests and field tries
  • Assist the chief investigator perform research activities, experiments and analysing data
  • Assist with the conduction of Fieldwork Safety Plans and Risk Assessments

This position is located at our picturesque St Lucia campus, renowned as one of Australia’s most attractive university campuses, and located just 7km from Brisbane’s city centre. Bounded by the Brisbane River on three sides, and with outstanding public transport connections, our 114-hectare site provides a perfect work environment – you can enjoy the best of both worlds: a vibrant campus with the tradition of an established university.

Our Ideal Candidate

Alongside a diploma level qualification in science, engineering, or a relevant field, we are seeking candidates with the following skills and experience:

  • Ability to design a research plan, conduct experiments and analyse data.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritise own workload, work independently and meet deadlines
  • Demonstrated field work experience

What We Can Offer

This is a part-time (0.4 FTE), fixed term position (6 month appointment) at HEW Level 4.

The full-time equivalent base salary will be in the range $65,424.85 - $69,453.78, plus super of up to 17%. The total FTE package will be in the range $76,547.07 - $81,260.92.
