Children's Cancer Institute is wholly dedicated to putting an end to childhood cancer and is the only medical research institute in Australia solely dedicated to this cause. The RA/AT will be supporting post-doctoral scientists in several research areas. The main duties involve: Maintaining primary tumour cultures and performing in vivo experiments to develop improved treatments for paediatric brain tumours.

Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Develop and maintain primary cultures of brain tumours.
  • Establishment of xenograft models of brain tumours and perform drug treatments.
  • Maintain complete and accurate research records
  • Maintain inventories of primary cells and reagents
  • Assist BT team with lab maintenance

Qualifications, experience and skills required:

  • 0-3 years research experience
  • Experience with cancer cell biology
  • Experience with in vivo experiments and establishment of xenograft models.
  • Demonstrated ability to design and conduct experiments independently as well as in a team environment
  • Advanced computer skills
  • Demonstrated commitment to OGTR and other regulatory requirements.
  • Exhibits a high degree of professionalism and respect for others.
  • An interest in developing techniques and using the latest technology in research projects.
  • Experience with primary tumour cultures.
  • Experience with general procedures involving in vivo experiments (handling, monitoring and treatments).
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team as necessary.
  • Flexible working attitude and ability to work to deadlines.
