JOB DESCRIPTION

RHT Investments Pty Ltd is seeking a qualified Veterinary Nurse for a state-of-the-art Veterinary Hospital, Treendale Pet Medical, located in Treendale, Australind, Western Australia for a full-time position (38 hours per week). The successful candidate must be a highly competent, qualified and experienced veterinary nurse with excellent people and animal skills.

  • Listen and determine the nature of concern or problem with animals and providing information to Veterinarians
  • Advise animal owners on detailed proper care of animals including vaccines, nutrition, parasite control and behaviour
  • Disinfect examination rooms, instruments and equipment and preparing surgical instruments for procedures
  • Preparing surgical patients, medicating patients under supervision, and monitoring anaesthetised patients under veterinary supervision
  • Calculate, prepare and administer medications, anaesthetics and oxygen to animals
  • Provide surgical support
  • Perform diagnostic laboratory tests
  • Assist veterinarians during examinations, consultations and treatments.
  • Transfer animals to recovery areas after operations or procedures and monitor their wellbeing
  • Maintain stock levels of equipment and care food and keep records of owners and their animals
  • Assist with administration work including reception duties and accepting payments

Essential qualifications and skills

  • Relevant Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing or minimum 3 years relevant work experience
  • Experience in university teaching facility and experience in emergency and critical care veterinary nursing at a referral hospital
  • Highly developed communication skills
  • Ability to understand and convey complex scientific principles well
  • Ability to work well under pressure.
  • Ability to manage and maintain a wide variety of technical equipment
  • Computer skills, telephone and reception ability

  • A strong sense of empathy and willingness to work a variety of shifts and overtime as required in the case of emergency work, completing all tasks required in running a busy animal hospital.
  • Leadership ability and emotional intelligence is necessary to do well in this position. You must be able to work well in a team and with a variety of personalities
  • Availability for work including for afterhours/emergencies is a key requirement

Salary

$50,000 - $60,000 plus superannuation
