About us

COVID-19 Quarantine Victoria (CQV) is responsible for Victoria's COVID-19 Accommodation response, including:

  • Mandatory quarantine for returned overseas travellers
  • Emergency Accommodation for people that cannot safely isolate/quarantine in their accommodation.

The Victorian Chief Health Officer has mandated that all returning overseas travellers arriving in Victoria must go into mandatory quarantine for 14 days from the day of their arrival to help prevent the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19).

In addition, CQV is responsible for the operation of Victoria's Emergency Accommodation program for community members and their close contacts who have tested positive for COVID-19 and where an assessment has concluded that there are no other suitable alternative accommodation options for self-isolation.

Infection control and prevention is the primary objective of the mandatory quarantine and emergency accommodation programs.

About the role

The Principal Policy Officer will be responsible for coordinating insightful policy and authoritative advice to senior executives and government, building a positive work culture that promotes the VPS values, supports innovation, and respects diversity.

As a credible communicator with well-developed negotiation and influencing skills, you will be able to work effectively with CQV stakeholders to deliver policy projects and resolve issues.

Your key responsibilities will also include:

  • Research, analyse, prepare and present comprehensive written materials, including reports, briefings, papers and presentations.
  • Support the amendment of quarantine fees legislation and related processes in partnership with stakeholders. 

About you

As our ideal candidate, you will have:

  • Technical policy skills with the ability to analyse complex issues, interpret legislation and develop accurate solutions with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent knowledge of and/or experience in Victorian Government administrative and legislative processes and policy development.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of current policy direction and issues within the CQV quarantine and emergency accommodation programs, or the ability to understand these issues quickly.
  • Demonstrated experience working to meet tight deadlines, achieve targets and adapt to changing priorities.
  • Excellent interpersonal and write and verbal communication skills, including the ability to develop business plans, media strategies, speeches, among others
