About the role
The Dispute Resolution practice group provides specialist expertise in resolving and managing disputes across many areas of law. It acts for regulatory agencies in enforcing the law, protects sensitive information from disclosure, defends government decisions and responds to claims made against the Commonwealth. It is often involved in the largest and most sensitive matters affecting the Australian Government.
In this role you will:
- work on sensitive litigation matters for Commonwealth law enforcement and security agencies
- manage and advise Commonwealth agencies on issues concerning the disclosure and protection of information in civil and criminal proceedings that have significant public interest implications for government
- advise and act for Commonwealth agencies in prosecutions of summary offences
- advise Commonwealth agencies on the use of investigative powers
- undertake work in other areas of law relevant to the work of AGS Dispute Resolution.
About you
These roles will suit experienced dispute resolution lawyers with experience in Law Enforcement litigation.
The successful candidate will ideally have:
- a minimum of 5 years' PQE for Executive Level 1 roles, 7 years' PQE for Executive Level 2 roles
- experience in managing large scale Law Enforcement litigation matters
- experience in other areas of law relevant to the work of dispute resolution
- the ability to work under pressure, excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to persuade
- think creatively and can deliver innovate client-focused legal solutions.
- a strong understanding of Law Enforcement and the ability to clearly articulate technical arguments and draft advisory opinions.
