About us

The Department of Justice and Community Safety's (the department) Regulation, Legal and Integrity group leads regulatory functions across the Justice portfolio. The Consumer Affairs, Liquor, Gaming and Dispute Services Group's functions tie in with the department's vision of a connected justice and community safety system, working to build a safer, fairer and stronger Victoria.

Regulation Policy is a Business Unit within the Consumer Affairs, Liquor, Gaming and Dispute Services Group. The Business Unit leads the Department's policy function in relation to the Consumer Affairs portfolio and includes around 30 pieces of legislation.

Regulation Policy's work supports the implementation of government priorities and commitments including improving the lives of all Victorians, with a focus on those who may be vulnerable, through the provision of improved financial support and protections, delivering better housing outcomes and working to ensure fair and safe trading.

About the role

As the Senior Manager, Regulation Policy, you will be responsible for:

  • managing and motivating a team of experienced staff, leading major policy, strategy and legislative reform projects aligned to the department's outcomes and objectives
  • providing high-level, authoritative advice to the senior executives and government on policy, strategy or data projects within a complex policy environment
  • engaging, consulting and working collaboratively with our internal and external partners across the broader justice system, including non-government agencies to deliver on major projects and priorities
  • negotiating with and influencing stakeholders across the justice system to resolve complex problems that have system wide and community impacts.
About you

As the Senior Manager, Regulation Policy, you will possess:
  • highly developed knowledge and experience of public policy processes, including in relation to consumer protection, business regulation and broader social and economic policy issues
  • proven ability to adopt an innovative and strategic approach to the development of policy and changes to the law
  • extensive knowledge of the CAV's stakeholder groups and the policy interests of those stakeholders
  • a strong track record of achievement in policy development at state and/or national level.
Keys to your success will be your highly developed written communication, policy and leadership skills, including the ability to build and manage a team of professional staff to deliver high quality outputs.
