About Department
The HITH Nurse Unit Manager is responsible for the provision of effective leadership and management of the Hospital in the Home Program. This includes high quality and efficient clinical service delivery; the recruitment, retention and development of staff; responsible financial management and collaborative interdisciplinary team work. The position works in partnership with the HITH medical, nursing, and allied health staff to provide patient centred care and optimise use of this bed based substitution model of care. The NUM reports directly to the St Vincent’s at Home Program Manager.

About the Role
We are seeking a dynamic Nurse Unit Manager to lead and manage our exciting Hospital in the Home (HITH) program. This newly established role will be responsible for effective leadership, service growth, and efficient clinical service delivery.

As a key pillar of our health service’s Care Beyond the Walls strategy, our imminent HITH Expansion will realise an ambitious but achievable occupancy target incrementing towards 25 appropriate, multiday HITH patients at any one time. This role will be pivotal in implementing new higher acuity clinical pathways, driving growth in service activity and building a collaborative and multi-disciplinary HITH team. The role will work in partnership with HITH Medical, Nursing and Allied Health staff to provide high quality, patient-centred care and to optimise capacity of this bed based substitution model of care.

As the successful applicant, you will become part of a growing multidisciplinary team at a critical time in the history of St Vincent’s Hospital Melbourne, as we transform traditional inpatient care towards a ‘home first’ approach.

The classification for this position will be Nurse Unit Manager NM11 ($118,835 per annum).

Essential criteria:

  • You are an enthusiastic, self-motivated individual(s) with a strong clinical and quality focus, excellent interpersonal skills and a proactive, collaborative approach to service development and improvement
  • You have a minimum of 7 years’ post-graduate experience
  • You have demonstrated effective leadership/managerial skills
  • You have relevant experience within community setting or across a broad range of acute medical/surgical services
  • You have a current Victorian Driver’s Licence

Desirable criteria:

  • Post Graduate qualifications in advanced clinical nursing or management/administration
  • Previous experience in HITH clinical care and/or leadership
