Reporting to the EGM Global Financial Services and dotted into the EGM Risk and Assurance, this role represents an opportunity to set up risk as a key strategic player within Xero’s financial services business; supporting a customer first, risk appropriate growth strategy while protecting the financial services group through the implementation of an effective risk management framework.

What you'll do...
  • Your role will contain but not be limited to:
  • Embed the organisation's 'risk appetite', ensuring there is an appropriate, on-going focus across the company in support of a customer-first, risk aware culture.
  • Design, implement and manage all aspects of risk that relate to the Financial Service group within Xero. Specific risk areas include credit risk, regulatory compliance, operational risk, data use and brand reputation.
  • Ensure that all credit processes are clearly documented, approved and in compliance with all necessary legislation and/or industry or company expectations/guidelines whilst taking a commercial and practical approach to risk based challenges.
  • Proactively and effectively communicate on risk issues affecting the business to boards, internal and external stakeholders and other relevant bodies.
  • Continual drive for enhanced efficiency and client service (internal and external) in all Risk and Compliance processes, in particular fostering close collaboration with other risk and compliance teams across the Xero group.
  • Develop, lead and motivate the Financial Services Risk and Compliance team, to develop effective working relationships with key stakeholders.
  • Championing the 3 levels of assurance model across the group through the implementation of risk oversight process across the business and the support of line 2 compliance functions and audit, as and when required.
  • Oversee the credit risk function within the Waddle business.
Reporting & Analysis
  • Working closely with finance, establish processes for prediction and forecasting of expected and potential credit losses across a range of time periods and economic scenarios (Provisioning, stress testing, what if scenario analysis).
Data & Technology
  • Unlock the value of data: driving risk analytics and modelling across the Financial Services group while ensuring adherence to the Xero Responsible Data Use Commitments.
Projects
  • Support project management and implementation through developing a clear understanding of business requirements, providing guidance on risk considerations and establishing clear accountabilities and controls for the ongoing management of risk
What you'll bring with you...
  • A broad understanding of a range of potential business risks including, but not limited to: credit risk, legal, AML, compliance, brand, IT, credit risk, operational risk, fraud risk.
  • Strong understanding of and experience in, the purpose, and effective execution of credit committees.
  • Experience in the use, ideally the selection, of a range of credit systems (application processing, customers management, collections, data management, reporting etc.)
  • Innovative thinker who understands the principles (not just the mechanics) of current credit practices and therefore can “challenge the norm“ based on adoption of appropriate principles, but in creative ways.
  • A strong understanding of relevant legislative and compliance requirements, including ideally, experience in working with a range of associated regulators.
  • Understanding of payment /transaction systems.
  • Understanding of dynamic decisioning systems which utilise real-time information to modify decision-making tools and/or pathways (from dynamic answer driven application forms to machine learning decision making)
It goes without saying that you will have excellent communication skills, especially with regard to explaining complex analytics in a manner than enables unfamiliar stakeholders to fully grasp concepts and applications, such that they can make confident decisions. You will have dealt with senior executives on a day to day basis and feel confident dealing with ambiguity, pace and conflicting objectives.
