About the opportunity

Are you an influential leader with the ability to drive your team to success? Does the thought of working in an operational environment excite you? Alcoa's Portland Aluminium Smelter is searching for an Operations Supervisor to join the team in either the Smelting Services or Anode production area. This is a permanent position working a 12hr shift roster.

As an Alcoa supervisor you will play a large part in the success of work execution and people engagement. This front-line leadership role is responsible for coaching and mentoring others to reach their full potential, developing and upholding very high standards in safety, maintenance practices whilst guiding diverse teams to achieve its goals in all areas of the business.

Other responsibilities for this role include:

  • Monitor and facilitate a balance between process demands by utilising your team’s resources
  • Establish crew plans and milestones, and to assist with deployment of operating strategies.
  • Coaching and supporting development in quality processes of planning, auditing, team performance.
  • Accountability for area production, maintenance quality, safety & health and personnel performance by developing a greater knowledge of the required principles underpinning Electrode operations.
  • Promote a culture within the crew that ensures safe work practices are developed and adopted by setting expectations, assessing individual performance, providing feedback and correct deficiencies.
  • Achieves a well-motivated and balanced team by providing each individual with appropriate training, development and guidance.
  • Maintains and improves the performance of critical processes within the area by ensuring regular crew audits on equipment, operating procedures and product are performed, and using this information to achieve continuous improvement in performance.
