JOB DESCRIPTION

Opportunity for a 5-10 year PAE Construction Lawyer to act as sole Counsel for a well-established company.

Your new company
This privately owned construction company has been operating for over 100 years and prides itself on its quality output and in being a 'solid pair of hands' in the industry. Over the years, it has built a strong reputation in key sectors within the industry and continues to grow its operations. As a result, it is looking to bring on a sole Legal Counsel (or Senior Legal Counsel) into its highly collaborative team to autonomously support the business with its various legal needs.

Your new role
As the primary point of contact for all internal legal matters, your day to day duties will predominantly be focused on providing front-end construction law advice to the business. This will include reviewing, negotiating and drafting a range of construction contracts including design & construct contracts, design only contracts, joint venture agreements and consultancy agreements.

Other areas of responsibility will include, but is not limited to:

  • dispute management and litigation (eg SOP matters);
  • reviewing, drafting and negotiating various other general commercial agreements;
  • advising the business on general commercial law matters such as privacy law and IP;
  • advising on compliance and corporate governance matters, including designing and implementing new policies and procedures;
  • development of new precedents and frameworks to facilitate operational efficiencies;
  • designing and rolling out training to the business on key legal issues as relevant;
  • managing external counsel, as required.

What you'll need to succeed
You will have approximately 5-10 years PAE in construction law, ideally with a focus on front-end construction in addition to some back-end construction experience. You must hold an Australian Practising Certificate and be comfortable in a fairly autonomous role with excellent stakeholder engagement abilities and strong communication and influencing skills. You will be a 'go-getter' with a proactive approach and commercial mind-set. Previous in-house experience will be highly regarded but is not a prerequisite.

What you'll get in return
This is an excellent opportunity to join a respected and established company in the construction sector that is going through another phase of growth where you will play a key advisory role across the business while working on a range of exciting projects. You will be supported by a team of highly experienced professionals and have the opportunity to provide strategic support to key executives while being a valued member of a highly collaborative company that prides itself on its strong family and philanthropic values and long tenure.
