Who We Are

The Sparkke Change Beverage Company (SPARKKE) is a female founded and led alcohol company producing 100% natural, award winning and predominantly mid-strength bevvies. Most recently we’ve introduced a premium, small artisanal spirit range.

We’re also a for-purpose company raising awareness and funds for important social issues through alcohol– the great conversation starter of Australia.

Launched in late November 2016 with the largest on-line pre-sale alcohol campaign in Australia’s history, SPARKKE has been challenging the entrenched cultural and gender stereotypes of Australia’s $15 billion pa booze industry ever since.

Why We Exist

We love great booze and hospo! And at the same time, we’re working to create a platform for good, for change, and a platform that celebrates diversity and inclusivity. We’re helping to change our industry, putting more of the “good” into the alcohol and the pub scene. We’re also a team of social activists representing diverse orientations, cultures, and backgrounds, disrupting an industry that’s largely male, pale, and stale.

We definitely believe that if you want to change the world, you have to help throw a better party.

SPARKKE at the Whitmore is the company’s first multi-award winning brewing home. Here, makers are celebrated – our own and others - and we’re creating and serving a wide and inclusive community. Everything we do at the Whitmore is driven by our values of care for others, social equity, a passion for excellence, and inclusivity. This shows up in food, bevvies, the Sparkke Shop, events and artists, our beautiful nano brewery and the extraordinary environment of the Whitmore.

The building itself is a bit of a marvel; during our renovation process we discovered a pub within a pub. Previously undiscovered, built in the 1840s, the Whitmore was first licensed by Thomas Maslin in December 1838. We host dinners for 50, weddings for a 100, private performances for 300 or private dining/board room for 16 and all things between – every function area reveals the building’s history.

But don’t look for stereotypes here, you’re just as likely to get Adelaide’s best expresso martini as one of our 100% natural brews – like our cider (Best of Class 2017, 2018 and 2019 at the Australian National Cider Awards) – while you are sitting on Adelaide’s best roof top bar looking out over the green of the square.

We’re especially happy to say that we’re an equal access venue; we’re fully wheelchair accessible across both floors.

Emerging from Covid, we know we haven’t gotten everything 100% right, so your leadership for our brew pub is a vitally important asset.

About You

You are a leader in the hospitality industry, who brings operational and service excellence to Sparkke. Whilst running a super-efficient, and well drilled operation, you ensure our customers experience a seamless visit that is authentic and carefully considered.

You understand the value of developing a well-trained team that delivers a consistent experience across venues, growing true hospitality professionals who share your passion, meticulousness and Sparkke’s values. You cultivate loyalty through your strong, fair and generous leadership style.

You relish the opportunity of fearlessly leading our award-winning brew pub through its next evolution – taking it to a new level. Your work at Sparkke at the Whitmore will help to create the cultural and service blueprint for The Vine in Melbourne (Collingwood) and you have the band width to help create a forward vision for our second brew pub (opens 2022).

You are confident that you will bring value as you review and update operational processes, policies and procedures, setting Sparkke up to be a hospitality leader, recognised for our amazing brews, spirits, incredible food and a customer service standard that is unique and personal.

You are a collaborator who will work energetically with the co-founders of our business from time to time – they are also leaders in their fields.

Your Experience

  • Experienced hospitality leader with 7+ years in a similar role.
  • Comfortable running a 600 pax venue, architecturally designed to create a true feeling of warmth and intimacy and offering a variety of spaces from a cosy fireside restaurant, an open-air internal courtyard, gorgeous all-weather rooftop overlooking Whitmore Square and several other function spaces.
  • Operationally excellent in dealing with customers – from our wide and inclusive community.
  • Hands on and engaged intimately in the daily operations of the venue. Financially and budget savvy, maintaining a focus on costs, budget management and profitability.
  • Able to identify and understand gaps to provide customer and operation solutions, updating or building venue specific processes around service to refine and improve.
  • Passionate about making and makers – from our brews, beverage offering to the especially important food offering. These will be areas you continually look for improvement.
  • You lead from the front - never afraid to step behind the bar, roll up your sleeves and work alongside your team.
  • You love to teach – and will be committed to ensuring that all staff are well trained, understand and embody the values of the company and their role in it.
  • Promote the venue and feel confident to bring your networks.
  • Experienced in pulling the leavers that drive revenue growth to achieve performance targets.
