In this role, you will promote Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Education through Closing the Gap and Solid Partners-Solid Futures Education Strategies to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander parents and community members. The successful applicant will support schools and communities to develop and introduce strategies in the context of school based management achieving the objectives of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Education Action Plan and the Closing the Gap Education Strategy. This role is based in the Maryborough regional office, providing services in the Maryborough and Hervey Bay areas.

Your Role

As the Community Partnerships Officer you will have responsibility for the following:

Promote Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Education through the development of strong relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander parents and community members and school.
Support schools and communities to co-design strategies which improve educational outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students.
Build the cultural capability of school and regional staff to give them confidence to embed Indigenous perspectives in their work
Support the senior leaders to engage effectively with Indigenous elders and communities to enable the co-design of strategies to improve outcomes.
Identify community training and development needs based on effective community profiling.
Develop and maintain a regional profile of local demographic, social, cultural, geographic and service characteristics through data collection, consultation with departmental officers, community service agencies, business organisations, other government services and key people from diverse cultural and social groups.
Liaise with community service agencies to initiate collaborative action, addressing community issues that may impact on schools and to link schools and parents with appropriate agencies.
Conduct workshops to build the capability of Community Education Counsellors and Indigenous Education Workers to increase the participation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community members in education decision making.

When working in regulated employment an employee must have a current Working with Children Clearance (blue card) issued by Blue Card Services.
