OBJECTIVE OF THIS ROLE
The Finance Officer is responsible for the maintenance of the back-office revenue collection and
bank reconciliation functions and providing general financial assistance and support to the Finance
team.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES IN THIS ROLE
1. Revenue Collection. Assist with the functioning of council’s back office revenue collection
areas of rates and debtors in line with statutory requirements and council’s customer service
framework.
2. Reconciliation. Ensure accurate and timely reconciliation of council’s general and trust
accounts to facilitate completion of councils statutory and management reporting.
3. Financial. Undertake various financial transactions including cash handling, receipting, and
banking processes in accordance with established procedures.

4. Maintain Council’s Treasury Function. Monitor and maintain council’s investment and debt
facilities in consultation with the Coordinator Financial Accounting.
5. Statutory Financial Reports. Assist with the accurate, timely completion of council’s
relevant statutory reporting requirements in consultation with the Coordinator Financial
Accounting.
6. Internal Controls. Ensure council’s agreed internal controls are maintained and followed.
7. Procedure Development. Contribute to the development and implementation of procedures
and guidelines that support council’s financial policies.
Additionally, this position may be required to conduct other duties as lawfully directed by the
reporting manager.
ABILITIES, SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED
Mandatory:
- Demonstrated understanding of financial transactions.
- Substantial experience with financial systems.
- High level knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
Desirable:
- Demonstrated understanding of local government legislation in relation to financial
- Experience with financial systems in a local government environment.
QUALIFICATIONS, EDUCATION AND LICENCES REQUIRED
Mandatory:
- Minimum of Queensland C class provisional drivers licence.
Desirable:
- Certificate, diploma or degree qualifications relevant to a finance environment.
KEY SELECTION CRITERIA
- Demonstrated experience and understanding of financial transactions and the bank
reconciliation process.
- Demonstrated experience using the Microsoft Office suite (Excel and Word).
- Ability to learn new financial systems.
- Ability to work in a team environment and contribute to the effectiveness of a team.

residency status, or a visa permitting you to work in Australia permanently. If you have a visa

GENERAL OBLIGATIONS
1. This is a description of the job as it is presently constituted. Council will regularly review
