Northern Health provides healthcare to a population of over 580,000 people in Melbourne’s rapidly growing northern growth corridor.

The Paediatric Department is a vibrant, busy and cares for general paediatric and neonatal patients. The department has a 22 bed Children’s Unit which includes 4 Paediatric Short Stay Unit beds. There is a 2 bed Paediatric High Dependency Unit (HDU) which is attached to the adult intensive care unit.

The Neonatal Unit (18 cots funded) provides high dependency neonatal care and is a level 5 capability. The Emergency Department is the busiest in Victoria and had 20,000 paediatric patients attend last year.

The Role

This position is for an Advanced Paediatric Trainee (preferably second or third year advanced trainee) to cover the specialist outpatient clinics at Craigieburn Health Service. These consultant supervised clinics will include the Northern Autism Spectrum Disorder Clinic (NASDAC), Refugee health clinic, Developmental and behavioural clinic, General Paediatric clinic and Continence clinic. The trainee will also be expected to attend the weekly education sessions held by the Centre for Community and Child Health (CCCH) at RCH on a Wednesday morning.

This position is accredited under the Advanced Training Committee in General Paediatrics and Community Paediatrics for 6 months of Community/Developmental medicine. Preference would be sought for 12 month applicants, however we would consider 6 month terms. Candidates may also consider either a 6 month Paediatric Emergency Department (accredited for acute terms in Advanced Gen Paeds training) or 6 months of Advanced General Paediatrics term.
