Policy Officer

  • $87,640 - $99,438 (Plus Superannuation)
  • Fixed Term – 12 months

The Policy Officer is part of a team in the Earth Resources Policy and Programs Unit, which is part of the Resources Branch. The primary purpose of the role is to support the development of contemporary policy, regulatory design and legislative reforms for earth resources to enable investment and generate jobs through the development of the State's resources, while protecting public safety and the environment. 

The position coordinates and provides a range of briefings and advice for the Department's Executive and the Minister for Resources, based on input from subject matter experts and analysis of social, economic and environmental factors relevant the earth resources sector, including engagement with industry stakeholders, community leaders and other agencies. 

Key accountabilities:

  1. Support delivery of contemporary policy, programs and regulatory reforms to support investment and jobs generation in local communities in responsibly developing the State's earth resources, with effective safeguards to protect public safety and the environment and ensuring strong engagement with local communities and Traditional Owners.
  2. Engage with other groups in the Department, other government departments and agencies to inform policy and legislative reforms relevant to the State's earth resources sector.
  3. Coordinate briefings and provide authoritative advice to the Department's executive and Minister as required. 

The successful candidate will have:

  1. Demonstrated experience in supporting delivery of contemporary program, policy and/or legislative reform.
  2. Sound research and analytical skills and demonstrated ability to develop innovative solutions to complex policy issues.
  3. Demonstrated capability and experience in building collaborative working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
