Our scope is the design, manufacture and management of a simple range of home loan products to bring the customer proposition to life. In joining this Tribe, you will be working with a group of highly engaged, diverse and interesting people.

As a Data Engineer in the Home Loan tribe you will be responsible for designing and creating data processing solutions that enable value from analytic models to drive rapid decision making.

A key element of this is driving the data engineering agenda within the Home Loan Tribe, ensuring delivery of best practice end-to-end data engineering respecting ANZ architecture standards. You will challenge inefficient engineering practise in ANZ and influence change in your field to drive better business outcomes. To this end, in the role you will implement smart and relevant data engineering to drive E2E application delivery and support the uplift of data engineering capability in Home Loan Tribe, while linking in to the wider Enterprise Analytics roadmap.

What Might a 'day In The Life' Look Like

As a Data Engineer in our Forensics reporting squad, your role is to contribute to the development of the Forensics Strategic eco-system to ensure that our portfolio is healthy and that ANZ is meeting our Customer Promise.

  • Liaise with business stakeholders to understand requirements of the eco-system
  • Work collaboratively with stakeholders within and outside of your squad to build new components to the eco-system and transition tactical solutions into the eco-system
  • Source data from a variety of sources to combine, synthesise and automate to deliver the eco-system
  • Actively participate in daily standups, Sprint Planning, Showcases and Retrospective ceremonies
  • Support a fact-based culture throughout the bank through ensuring the eco-system has accurate data sourced from proven reliable sources.
  • Clearly communicate and present updates to technical and non-technological stakeholders
  • Educate and upskill the squad and chapter on data engineering applications and methods to improve efficiency and accuracy and service to our customers

What will likely be in your toolkit?
  • MS or BS in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics or equivalent practical experience in Data Engineering
  • A strong background in data processing and software engineering and can build high quality, scalable data products
  • Strong Software Engineering experience with proficiency in at least one high-level programming language (Python, Java, Scala)
  • Experience and proficiency in at least one high-volume data processing environment (Teradata, Oracle, Cloudera, BigQuery or equivalent)
  • Extensive experience working within cross-functional, agile or continuous delivery teams
  • Strong ability to translate data insights into practical business recommendations
  • Experienced stakeholder management skills with ability to quickly synthesis business requirements across multiple disciplins into effective standard data product
  • Have a strong desire to mentor others and uplift the Data capability of our squad and data chapter
  • Proven data wrangling skills to quickly understand and validate different data sources to build effective, sustainable analytical assets

  • Background and experience in the financial services industry
  • Analytical and inquisitive mindset to continuously improve the delivery of data assets
  • Analytical & problem-solving skills to understand the complexity of our data
  • Thorough approach to detail, ensuring a high level of accuracy
  • You will have excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to build strong stakeholder relationships both internally and externally
  • Be able to navigate through ambiguity
  • Able to innovate data solutions that will meet current requirements while at the same time solve broader data challenges
