Maverick Biomaterials manufacture and supply animal derived raw materials from Australia and New Zealand exporting globally, creating and managing customized supply chains for manufacturers of pharmaceuticals, vaccines, medical products, nutraceuticals and collagen based products.

Maverick works closely with the slaughter industry throughout Australia and New Zealand, operating its own production teams to produce customized materials in compliance with clients’ regulatory requirements for global access of finished products. Maverick Biomaterials is certified to the ISO13485 quality system standard with ISO 22442-2 included in scope.

General Responsibilities

The focus of the Chief Technology Officer (CTO) will ensure Maverick maintains its reputation as technical experts in fixed animal derived biologicals (ADB). You will apply your knowledge of chemistry and biology to refine and improve existing chemical treatments of ADB materials. You will work with our international clients to develop new and innovative solutions to their ADB needs. You will consult with industry experts to build your own knowledge and apply this to real life problems.

In this pivotal role of Chief Technology Officer, you will also:

  • Develop technical aspects of the company’s strategy to ensure alignment with its business goals.
  • Represent the technological agenda as it relates to product innovation.
  • Maintain current knowledge of technology landscape and development.
  • Discover and implement new technologies that yield competitive advantage.
  • Assist implementing and collaborating with the other departments.
  • Supervise system infrastructure to ensure functionality, efficiency and profitability.
  • Monitor KPI’s to ensure operational excellence when assessing the technological performance.
  • Use stakeholders’ feedback to inform necessary improvements and adjustments to technology.
  • Communicate technology strategy to partners and investors.
  • Take the initiative in thorough leadership, innovation and creativity.
  • Collaborate and communicate effectively with the other company departments.

Who you are:

The ideal candidate will have an organized and creative mindset that drives the person to find innovative and competitive concepts, which are then successfully commercialized creating additional enterprise value.

  • 10+ years of experience in a medical device industry which utilizes materials of animal origin.
  • Possess deep understanding of animal derived raw materials including the chemical fixation process of cross linking.
  • Proven track record of success in leadership positions.
  • BSc in biology, chemistry, biomedical engineering; MBA or Masters of Science is a plus.
  • Experience working within ISO certified Quality System standards ISO13485 & ISO 22442
  • Ability to conduct technological analyses and research
  • Solid understanding of financial management planning, R&D and Operational budgets.
  • Exceptional project management and organizational skills.
