JOB DESCRIPTION
This newly created role reports to the Director Multi Modal Engineering and sits within the advanced technical services team of the Infrastructure and Place Division, comprising of close to 100 highly qualified staff. Areas of expertise within the group cover:
Fire and Life Safety, Civil, Track, Electrical, Signalling and Communications, Renewable Fuels & Energy Tunnelling, Road Design and Ground Engineering
In this role you will be expected to champion the development of a centre of excellence in Track Engineering and the provision of specialist track and Permanent Way technical expertise for large scale complex rail infrastructure programs.
You’re knowledge and experience will ensure the innovative and safe design of new complex and challenging rail solutions, while also developing, maintaining, retaining and transferring TfNSW IP Track engineering capabilities. This will include providing a high level of strategic and specialised technical and incident management advice and managing Track Engineering technical leadership across TfNSW and the industry.
Key accountabilities
You’re day to day duties will include but not be limited to:
Act as a thought leader, remaining abreast of current and emerging planning issues and trends, including domestic and international best practice, innovative approaches and opportunities to support the achievements of the business objectives.
Develop technical policies, standards, specifications and guidelines to address technology and industry trends and organisational needs, drawing on Australian and international research and best practice.
Build strong, operative, engaging and professional relationships with the relevant project teams and embedded technical resources, developing an in-depth understanding of their objectives to support the deployment of technical rail engineering services to the projects and to drive best practice and appropriate engineering service to stakeholders.
Role description
As a Subject Matter Expert (SME) you will provide expert Track Permanent Way technical and engineering advice and support by building effective relationships and partnerships that facilitate the exchange of information, analysis and commentary, and enables the proactive resolution of issues.
Foster a collaborative, state-wide, Track Permanent Way engineering community of practice within TfNSW and promote industry engagement and participation to improve internal and private sector industry products and capabilities.
Unite project stakeholders, relevant skilled Track Permanent way engineers and industry partners together to build critical mass with a new capacity for interdisciplinary, collaborative approaches to address the most challenging and significant problems or drive innovation with relevant projects and infrastructure and place requirements.
Key knowledge and experience
Highly developed leadership, project planning and management expertise with a record of achievement in technical rail projects.
Demonstrated ability to engage stakeholders in a complex environment and gain broad buy-in in support of targeted outcome.
Ability to work through complex issues from different perspectives, and develop sound reasoning for a course of action.
Tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline and/or relevant industry experience.
