    About the Role ...

    An exciting opportunity now exists for a talented Fruit and Veg Team Leader to join our team on a full-time basis.

    As Fruit and Veg Team Leader you will report to the Store Manager and work within the Fruit and Veg Team in a fast-paced role focusing on keeping our displays replenished and fresh and ensuring that only top quality fruit and vegetables are displayed for our customers' visual delight.

    Your day will involve:

    • Leading your shift by example, overseeing and working alongside your Team Members and supporting them to increase productivity, efficiency and effectiveness, find solutions to problems and reduce wastage
    • Welcoming customers, answering their questions and helping them locate items
    • Advising customers about seasonality, provenance, use and cooking ideas, demonstrating with your extensive product knowledge of fresh fruit and vegetables.
    • Ensuring produce is correctly ticketed with correct prices and descriptions
    • Training and developing your Team Members so that their professional goals can be achieved and performance can be continuously improved
    • Ordering and receiving fresh produce and managing its storage, presentation and rotation to minimise damage and wastage
    • Ensuring your department is always presented at the highest standards of cleanliness and tidiness

    About You ...

    You will have a friendly and open attitude, with outstanding communication and interpersonal skills. You will have extremely good attention to detail and be able to focus on the finer details, such as quality control and ordering, while keeping in mind the bigger picture of the overall presentation and running of your department.

    You must also have a passion for customer service, love working with fresh fruit and vegetables and enjoy working in a busy store where you will be part of a multidisciplinary team of retail professionals.

    Flexibility to work across our span of hours, including alternate weekends, is also required.


    To succeed in this role you will need the following skills and experience:

    • At least 2 years’ experience in working with fresh fruit and vegetables in another food retailer at Team Leader level, or be an aspiring leader with at least 2 years’ experience working as a Fruit and Veg/Fresh Produce Team Member wishing to apply your developing leadership skills in a Team Leader role
    • Excellent communication skills and a high level of competence in written and spoken English
    • Significant fresh food retail knowledge and a love of food, cooking, nutrition and different cuisines, which you will share with your team and your customers
    • Strong judgement and problem solving skills to resolve and escalate issues and concerns with your Section or Store Manager in a timely manner
    • Ability to work and lead within a team environment
    • Strong customer service skills including resolving customer complaints
    • Acute attention to detail and time management skills
    • Ability to Inspire, develop and drive team performance through mentoring and coaching during each shift
    • High level of energy and ability to take direction and initiative
    • Demonstrate self-motivation, adaptability, drive, and efficiency
    • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment
    • Possess a growth mindset with the ability to learn from mistakes and continue learning
    • Ability to comprehend and follow company procedures and regulations regarding food handling and Workplace Health and Safety.
