About the role

The Intensive Family Preservation Caseworker is responsible for providing effective, flexible, high quality strength based casework services to families who are currently at risk of having their children placed in out of home care. The role has a focus on increasing child safety in the home to increase family preservation and decrease risk of unnecessary child out of home care placements.

This opportunity is a Max-term contract which ends June 30th 2021, with a view for permanent employment subject to recommissioning due to be finalised in May 2021. The hours worked will be Full-time based between CatholicCare sites across Northern Sydney and Hornsby, working with families from across this area.


  • Provide Trauma informed, Strength Based casework services to children and young people experiencing abuse and neglect
  • Maintain appropriate records to meet requirements, including case plans and safety plans
  • Work effectively within a child protection framework; as well as

You will be asked to participate in an afterhours 24/7 on call service for specialist support to IFP families alongside the rest of the team, shared on a roster bases

Skills & experience

  • Have Tertiary qualifications in an appropriate area e.g., Social Work, Welfare, Psychology, Counselling or related discipline;
  • Demonstrated experience working and engaging with children, young people and their families, particularly in the area of child protection;
  • Demonstrated experience of the Care and Protection Act and the DCJ child protection system
  • Demonstrated experience in effective case management with families;
  • Knowledge of housing issues, domestic violence, child protection, child development (0-14 years) and custody issues
