Climate change is affecting communities all over Australia, with 2020 the joint hottest year ever recorded (along with 2016). In response, ANU has committed to reduce its own greenhouse gas emissions (GHGs), in line with commitments to be net greenhouse gas neutral by 2025 and negative by 2030, via the ANU Below Zero Initiative.

ANU is in a unique position to lead societal transformation by combining on-campus climate action with our world-leading climate and energy research and teaching to develop innovative solutions at an institutional and individual level. The University has the capacity to promote these innovations and provide leadership to other organisations in Australia and worldwide.

The goal of the ANU Institute for Climate, Energy & Disaster Solutions (ICEDS) is to advance solutions to climate change, disasters and energy system transitions by initiating, developing and supporting integrated, innovative and interdisciplinary approaches to research, policy challenges, research uptake and teaching.

The Institute also leads the research, teaching and engagement aspects of the ANU Below Zero Initiative. This requires developing opportunities to integrate operational measures with research and teaching, facilitating and encouraging significant behavioural change at an institutional and individual level and promoting the initiative to a broad range of external stakeholders.


The Below Zero Engagement Manager plays a key role in planning and managing Below Zero’s engagement activities, including integration with teaching, facilitating Below Zero research projects, internships and guest lectures, and establishing and supporting community engagement and communications programs.

To excel in this role, you will have experience in community engagement, communications, change management, research management and / or education development. Qualifications or experience in climate change mitigation, adaptation, emissions accounting, energy and / or environmental communications will be highly regarded. You will be a strong communicator and collaborator with excellent interpersonal skills.
