The opportunity

We are on the lookout for an experienced, proactive, safety focused, organised and detail orientated Senior Instrumentation Technician to join our dynamic maintenance team, based at our world class paper mill in Tumut NSW.

In this busy role, no day is the same as you use your strong technical knowledge to lead and support a small team of Instrument technicians to ensure the effective maintenance of mainly control valves, CEMS (continuous emission monitoring systems) and transmitters throughout the pulp mill.

You are a quick learner and will immerse yourself in the mill to understand the plant and equipment for review of continuous improvement initiatives, reliability, optimization enabling you to plan and organise maintenance, for our annual shut down.

Your day to day

Working autonomously, you will repair, troubleshoot, and maintenance of the instrumentation systems installed in boilers, evaporation systems and steam turbines. Your day to day includes but is not restricted too:

  • Optimize Instrument maintenance practice to improve reliability and reduce maintenance cost.
  • Manage instrument maintenance in the Pulp mill area for the annual major shut down (MSD)
  • Prepare and manage shutdown work plans, work packs and schedule, ensure strict adherence to schedule and on time startup.
  • Managing daily work schedules and breakdown response for E&I work (employee and contractor) according to the maintenance plan and statutory compliance
  • Drive reduction of rework, and repeat failures.
  • Create and review procedures, standards and work instructions for Instrument and control equipment maintenance, installation.
  • Review, verify and update the database of transmitter’s calibration ranges across the site
  • Ensure compliance with all related regulations and standards
  • Initiate and drive a safe workplace including ensuring you and your team follow safety policies and regulations and consult with HSE representatives with any workplace changes

What you will bring to the team:

  • Diploma in Instrumentation/Electrical (electrical trade desirable)
  • Connect/Disconnect licence
  • 3 years’ minimum experience within industrial maintenance in a continuous process environment (preferably within the Paper, Aluminum, Steel, Mining, FMCG, Heavy industries)
  • Tech savvy and proficient in Microsoft Office, SAP, CMMS or ERP systems (advantageous)
  • Sound knowledge of control valves maintenance and continuous emissions monitoring equipment
  • High verbal and written communication skills including stakeholder management
  • Experience working on projects and shut downs with strict deadlines
  • Exceptional fault finding skills, root cause analysis with a solutions mindset and ability to trouble shoot
  • Strong attention to detail, organisational and time management skills
  • Analytical mindset focused on safety practices and reporting
  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment with competing priorities
  • Supportive, energetic, honest, positive and collaborative leadership style with a team focus

This plant operates on a 24/7 day basis and you will need to be flexible to work additional hours as required including being on our call out roster.
