The Role
As an APS5 or APS6 Intelligence Assessment Analyst, you will analyse and evaluate information from a variety of sources, and provide intelligence assessments to customers to reduce uncertainty in their decision-making.

An Intelligence Assessment Analyst at these levels is accountable under some direction to undertake complex research and analysis activities and tasks. They will work within a framework of legislation, established principles, work practices and procedures in accordance with Defence’s mission and business objectives. They will undertake various intelligence assessment-related activities involving a range of processes and methodologies. They will have authority and discretion to varying degrees, depending on their level, to exercise initiative and judgement to achieve results.

The APS5 Intelligence Assessment Analyst will coordinate and contribute to the work of a team consistent to a work plan and provide advice and assistance on methods of task completion to team members. An APS6 Intelligence Assessment Analyst will use their initiative and experience to analyse, plan, review and adjust priorities and work activities to meet business outcomes. An APS6 analyst may also be a team coach or supervise a small operational team and will be expected to be capable of reviewing and developing the quality of work undertaken by others within a work group. They may exercise the associated people and financial responsibilities to achieve Defence outcomes.

We are looking for people of any age and background who have strong research and analytical skills and an understanding of Australia’s strategic, defence and national security priorities and environment. You will be aware of DIO’s place in government and its primary goals.

Our ideal candidate will also have an inquiring mind, seeking to confirm truths and probabilities, and the ability to scrutinise foreign developments to recognise trends and patterns. You are a team player and will be capable of cultivating productive working relationships throughout government and with foreign partners. You will have excellent interpersonal, and written and verbal communication skills, and demonstrate flexibility, initiative and resilience in your approach to your work.
