Our Client

Our client is a diverse Group of experienced and established growers of fresh produce (fruit and vegetables) in Western Australia, and are committed to finding exciting and environmentally sustainable horticulture and production practices, and focused on attracting industry professionals who will enhance their business.

The Group’s administration, processing and packaging operations are located in Canning Vale, Western Australia.

The Role

Our client is seeking to employ two Agronomists specialising in production horticulture.

These pivotal roles will include providing agronomic recommendations and technical horticultural support to the Group and related producers in the region located between the Perth Metropolitan Region, Geraldton, Carnarvon, Kununurra and Broome. The Group also works with partner farms on Australia’s Eastern Seaboard to supply both export markets retail stores across Australia.

The geographical spread allows the Group to take advantage of Western Australia’s diverse climatic zones and grow many of their fresh produce lines for 12 months of the year.

Building on the Group’s established and long- term supplier and client relationships, you will develop a strong understanding of the farmers and producers’ requirements and seek to maintain the Groups’ competitive edge through optimum production of top-quality produce.

About You

To be successful you will have established yourself as a trusted Agronomist in both hands-on and advisory roles, demonstrating an understanding of the products, seasonal timings and general requirements of our region’s diverse and highly successful horticultural producers. It is expected that you will have at least two years’ work experience post qualification.

You will be able to provide the right advice and services to producers, navigating the complexities of your industry along with a demonstrated understanding of the latest agronomic products and technologies critical in developing a sustainable approach whilst managing environmental constraints that will vary with each client.

Your sound customer service, organisational, administrative and computing skills will be complemented by excellent written and verbal communication skills.

A tertiary qualification either a degree or a diploma, in agricultural science, farming or a related field and a current driver’s license is essential. Your experience in an agronomic advisory role related to agricultural chemicals and fertiliser will be highly rated.

You will be one of a team of two Agronomists working with the most progressive group of farmers and producers in Western Australia.

Your duties will include (but not be limited to):

  • Consultation with individual growers to establish their needs and goals
  • An expert understanding of plant nutrition, agronomy and modern crop production techniques
  • Taking of ground samples, recommendation and calculation of feeding, watering and supplements to optimise crops
  • Knowledge of a variety of pest control and disease management with the ability to talk directly to customers and retailers advising on specific areas
  • Performing crop checks to assess pest control efficacy
  • Recording and reporting data
  • Grower management, support and advice
  • Trialling new plant health products
  • Establish trials to agreed protocols, collection of trial data and samples and trial reporting
  • Monitor crop phenology
  • Assist in crop count and yield forecasting
  • Assist with research and practical experience to troubleshoot crop diseases, under performance and other problems that may arise
  • Establish and document best practice management techniques to grow different crops across a diverse region

How to apply

The successful applicant will be rewarded with a remuneration package that will include a competitive base salary plus superannuation, company vehicle, phone, computer and four weeks paid annual leave.

Base salary will be negotiated to a level commensurate with experience and qualifications. Graduates with at least two years’ work experience can expect a base salary at $58,500 whilst an experience senior agronomist with at least 8 years’ work experience can expect a base salary starting at $67,500.
