The Chief Scientist’s Branch of the NSW Department of Primary Industries (NSW DPI) is currently looking for a Research Ethics Officer to join a dynamic team that is passionate about ensuring ethics and integrity are upheld in science and research across the state.

In this critical role, you will be responsible for providing both technical and executive support to the Department’s animal ethics committees by:

  • Organising animal ethics committee meetings, agendas, papers, minutes, and follow-up actions as required
  • Interpreting and communicating to stakeholders our Departmental policy, legislation, and subordinate legislative instruments
  • Contributing to the evaluation of the effectiveness of NSW DPI's animal ethics committees
  • Reviewing research ethics applications and providing advice to researchers on compliance and related issues
  • Enhancing animal and human research ethics processes and systems across NSW DPI

About You:

To be considered for this position, you will have:

  • Degree qualifications in animal/veterinary science, biological science, or a related discipline
  • A passion for and comprehensive understanding of research ethics, particularly animal ethics
  • An ability to understand, apply and communicate legislation and complex content
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship building skills, attention to detail, self-motivation, the ability to prioritise and meet deadlines, and excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Current driver's licence and ability and willingness to travel
  • Experience in the provision of high quality, professional Committee support will be highly regarded

The Chief Scientist’s Branch (CSB) enhances NSW DPI’s capacity to deliver world-class science and innovation. The CSB is responsible for:

  • Enhancing science excellence
  • Advancing research integrity and ethics
  • Fostering DPI’s ability to deliver strategic and industry-focused science outcomes for NSW
  • Influencing state and national science policy
  • Providing advice and reports to the Executive, Minister, and NSW Government on strategic science issues.
