About The Project

McConnell Dowell is the constructor within the Western Program Alliance (WPA) which forms part of the Victorian State government’s ambitious level crossing removal program. The Alliance brings together the Level Crossing Removal Project (LXRP), Metro Trains Melbourne (MTM), and Arup and Mott MacDonald as design partners.

WPA was formed in 2017 and following the successful completion of several major projects, is now focused on delivering the level crossing removals at Werribee (Werribee Street & Cherry Street), Hoppers Crossing (Old Geelong Road) and Cranbourne (the Cranbourne Line Upgrade), as well as developing future works projects.

Your Opportunity

We are currently seeking applications from passionate, community focussed individuals with demonstrated experience to join us in the position of Senior Communications & Stakeholder Advisor. Reporting to the Communications and Stakeholder Engagement Manager, the primary focus of this role is to ensure that all communication and stakeholder engagement objectives for the Project are met. Located in Melbourne’s West, this is a fantastic opportunity to work for a major rail project.

Your Responsibilities Will Include But Not Be Limited To

As a Senior Communications and Stakeholder Advisor, you will be working within a high-performing Stakeholder and Communications team.

  • Engage with professionals from a wide range of backgrounds across the Level Crossing Removal Project to develop clear and concise communication materials.
  • Assist in the development of communications and stakeholder relations strategies to guide external engagement and support for the project through its various stages, including planning and planning approvals through to project delivery.
  • Assist in the development of public information about the project that is clear, timely and accessible for directly affected stakeholders.
  • Research and write high-quality, original communications material for media releases, fact sheets, publications, newsletters (internal and external), advertising copy, brochures, project website and other content as required.
  • Accurate weekly and monthly reporting on communications and stakeholder relations issues and progress of issues resolution.
  • Respond to public enquiries in a timely and appropriate manner, in accordance with established protocols.
  • Liaise with LXRP communications staff to agree communications materials, particularly around construction activities, liaise with internal and external stakeholders to develop risk minimisation strategies and manage issues to ensure the project’s reputation is maintained and enhanced.
  • Monitor, audit and maintain the Customer Relationship Management database to ensure that all interactions with community, key stakeholders and the general public are logged accurately.
  • Assist LXRP staff to organise and coordinate logistics, meetings and communication with relevant Stakeholder Liaison Groups.
  • Help manage logistics for a range of communications activities and events, including community information sessions, launches, letterbox drops, corporate events and public and promotional events.
  • Preparing and undertaking internal company communications.

Requirements For This Role Are
  • Demonstrated experience in communications and stakeholder relations, preferably in a construction or infrastructure environment.
  • Ability to develop clear and concise community focussed communication materials drawing from a variety of different sources. This includes the ability to identify information relevant to stakeholders from technical information and develop appropriate communication material.
  • Strong verbal and written communications skills, with a proven ability to produce high quality communications materials.
  • Well-developed organisational and coordination skills with a demonstrated ability to determine priorities and manage tasks under pressure and to tight deadlines.
  • Strong administrative skills, particularly with the Microsoft suite of applications, Customer Relationship Management software and call centre software.
  • Demonstrated experience in the planning, coordination and delivery of public events.
  • Demonstrated understanding of key transport stakeholders and their communications requirements.
  • Demonstrated capacity to build positive relationships with key internal and external stakeholders within Government, private sector organisations and members of the public and work with a wide range of people to achieve desired outcomes.
  • A proactive approach to identifying opportunities and risks, and an ability to identify innovative solutions to complex problems.
  • Ability to work autonomously under limited supervision, and as part of a team.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
