About the role

The Manager Maintenance Execution – NSW is a recently formed role that has been established to align to the ‘Day of Operations’ needs of the operational business unit with a focus on the asset needs to ensure reliability.

Reporting to the Head of Assets, the role exists to ensure the NSW operational units have access to the capacity and capability of rollingstock and infrastructure to sustain the daily service delivery. You will be expected to ensure the successful execution and allocation of resources to effectively perform inspections, maintenance, repair, cleaning and upgrade of all Pacific National rollingstock. With direct accountability across Greta and Tighes Hill physical maintenance facilities, you will ensure that any 3rd party facilities also meet Pacific National’s quality and safety standards.

You’ll be expected to manage a team of 6 direct reports and a larger group of indirect reports, providing leadership and support in a collaborative and inclusive manner. You will foster a high-performance work culture through the development of an empowered and engaged team who work together to ensure the safe delivery of maintenance activities.

Key responsibilities:

  • Lead and develop a large team with a focus on engagement and building capability
  • Contribute as a key member of Intermodal Leadership team, supporting the delivery of strategic Pacific National objectives
  • Overall accountability for the execution of maintenance strategies and objectives that result in the safe and effective delivery of maintenance services and activities for the Intermodal portfolio
  • Interact with the Manager for Locomotive Maintenance for all locomotive maintenance arisings and engage as appropriate with our third-party locomotive maintenance providers to identify and create solutions that enhance and prevents asset cancellations and or delays.
  • Develop an annual maintenance plan for the provision of wagon maintenance in partnership with the business and the maintenance suppliers and in compliance with Pacific National’s Asset Management Strategy.
  • Develop strategic relationships across Pacific National, partnering with Locomotive Management, Scheduling and Planning, Engineering and operational stakeholders in the management of rollingstock maintenance for the Intermodal business.
  • Prepare and manage financial budgets according to the maintenance plan.

Interstate travel will be required as part of the role.

About you

To be successful in this role you must have proven leadership experience, in a people management capacity within a complex maintenance and operations environment.

In addition, ideal applicants will be able to demonstrate:

  • Proven program management experience within an operational environment, managing large and complex projects including risks, procurement, contract management and financial management.
  • Practical knowledge of reliability-focused maintenance programs
  • Extensive contract management exposure, with demonstrable negotiation capability
  • Tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline is highly advantageous
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate, liaise and interact at senior management level with internal and external customers and contractors
  • Background in rail, transport, logistics or heavy industry is preferred but not essential
  • Previous experience with rolling stock programs is advantageous but not essential
