Position summary

With an increased volume of work and activity within the Substations portfolio, we are seeking a highly experienced National Operations Manager to join our team, reporting to the General Manager of Power Systems and Northern Infrastructure. This role will see you lead the growing national portfolio of substations projects, ensuring safe and successful delivery in line with client objectives, contract obligations and business goals. This is a permanent, full time position located in North Ryde, NSW.

THE ROLE

As National Substations Operations Manager and part of the division’s leadership team, this role will focus on the operational delivery of Substations projects and programs for Power clients nationally. This is a multifaceted role drawing on strong operational delivery management skills, sound understanding and awareness of “zero-harm” principals and processes, resource management and development, positive stakeholder engagement, management skills and solid project performance capabilities. The role requires an individual who has operated at a similar level within the sector, overseeing the construction of Substations within the Power environment within Australia, who will be able to maintain and further promote Downer’s leading position in this field through the delivery of client and shareholder satisfaction, providing value for money solutions and business improvement.

ABOUT YOU

Technical Experience and Sector Exposure

Tertiary qualifications in Engineering or a Trades background with significant demonstrable operational experience will be essential

Successful track record evidencing your management experience in a power infrastructure and specifically within the substation operations market

Previous exposure working for or with different power utilities and infrastructure clients

Functional and operational skills

Solid project planning, commercial, financial planning and operational budgeting skills

Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of different state industrial and legislative requirements and specifications in support of operational delivery

Sound decision making and analytical capabilities – demonstrating awareness of risk management methods, processes and practices to foster quality decision making

Experience in managing, developing and growing a national resource capability in Substations construction projects

A successful track record of Zero Harm leadership as well as the ability to support operations to continually improve safety performance

Client engagement skills

Solid stakeholder management with the ability to proactively nurture and build positive relationships and identify new business opportunities

An effective communicator at all levels – written and verbal, with the ability to negotiate with and influence others to achieve positive outcomes

Develop and maintain effective relationships with key internal and external customers, suppliers and sub-contractors
