About the Role

ABC News Digital is looking for an experienced digital journalist to join its team of front page editors. Working at the direction of the Managing Editor and other senior team members, you will help to manage the front pages of the ABC News website and top stories in the ABC News app. You will play a central role in selecting the best ABC content to present to audiences and use your talent for presenting news in surprising and engaging ways to continually improve the performance of our front pages. You will act as an expert headline writer and give guidance to others on the art of making stories as appealing to readers as possible. You will help News Digital to achieve its aims of presenting news and information that reflects the broad diversity of Australian society.

Each month millions of Australians visit the ABC News website and app. Your talent for creating an appealing destination for our audiences will help to ensure they keep coming back.

You will:

* Edit and curate the national front page of the ABC News website, ensuring the best experiences on mobile web, News app and desktop
* Maintain the front-page breaking and live-streaming tickers to ensure swift delivery of breaking news to audiences
* Collaborate with teams from across the ABC to finesse the presentation of content to audiences
* Help to formulate and communicate the ABC News front page strategy to wider digital stakeholders
* Formulate best-practice advice and feedback on headline writing and testing
* Monitor the nine front pages of the news website to ensure the seamless delivery of news across the country
* Work with editorial and product teams to continually improve the front-page experience for the audience

About You

You will make key decisions about which stories to present to national audiences and act as a final quality control before stories are selected for priority placement on the ABC News website. You will act as a voice for audiences, identifying gaps in coverage and sharing information about audience response to stories.

You thrive in a fast-paced environment and are passionate about sharing stories that matter to Australians.

Demonstrated high-level digital skills and knowledge of, and enthusiasm for, online as a medium are a must, along with:

* Demonstrated understanding and passion to highlight authentic content which represents the broad diversity of the Australian community
* A thorough understanding of the way news stories are presented online
* Proven ability to work under pressures associated with a breaking news environment
