About the team

Whether it is staying informed of the latest breaking News, bringing some great TV on iview, streaming the Hottest 100 on the triple j app, or entertaining the kids with our ABC Kids app, the ABCs Digital Product offerings are some of Australias most loved and most used platforms. The Future Focus team plays an integral role within the broader Digital Product team. Join a dynamic close-knit team exploring how emerging technologies, such as voice assistants, can help the ABC provide new services to the Australian public.

About the Role

This exciting opportunity will have you bringing your development skills to work with the Future Focus team and the Data Services team, alongside a Conversation Designer, to build a smart speaker skill platform that will use the Data Service API to provide a range of emergency information to the public.

You will have the opportunity to:

* Develop high performance, secure and accessible digital products.
* Contribute as part of a high performing team to the analysis, design and development of very complex, re-usable components for voice platforms such as Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant.
* Champion a high level of awareness of best practice in the industry for software engineering, particularly in areas such as performance, security and accessibility.

About You

You have a passion for new and emerging technology, and solid fundamentals in software engineering to explore possibilities in these areas in a scalable and sustainable way.

You will have demonstrated strengths in the following:

* Writing complex, secure, and high-performance applications in NodeJS, with excellent knowledge of JavaScript. Experience in other languages such as Golang and Python are highly desirable.
* A strong understanding and experience of modern frameworks and build tools and engineering approaches.
* A keen interest or any direct experience building applications for voice systems (using Amazon Alexa or Google Voice assistants is highly desirable.
* Highly advanced knowledge of REST concepts and experience working with REST APIs (any experience with GraphQL is highly desirable).
* Working with cloud-based infrastructure such as AWS (AWS Lambda).
* Test automation as part of your engineering process.
* Able to collaborate and communicate effectively in a creative, cross functional team.
