Duties

  • To coordinate the Department of State Growth’s input to national transport policy forums ensuring accurate and timely advice is provided to the Manager, General Manager, other State Growth Executives in relation to the work programs of the Transport and Infrastructure Council (TIC), the Transport and Infrastructure Senior Officials Committee (TISOC), National Transport Commission (NTC), the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator (NHVR), the Office of the National Rail Safety Regulator (ONRSR), Austroads Safety Task Force and other relevant national processes as required.
  • Represent the Department on the Australian Road Rules Maintenance Group, facilitated by the NTC, and actively coordinate consultation with local stakeholders regarding amendments to existing rules or proposed new rules. Provide advice to public enquires regarding the road rules and review ways the road rules can be accessible to the public, particularly when new rules come into effect.
  • Process exemptions under the road rules for which the Manager Road Safety has delegated authority.
  • Provide high-level strategic advice and leadership on national transport policy reforms relevant to the Division, including issues relating to vehicle standards, vehicle operations, compliance and enforcement, road safety, rail safety and heavy vehicles.
  • Liaise with the NTC, the NHVR, ONRSR, and other state and national bodies on the above matters, and proactively represent the Department at state, national and consultation forums.
  • Liaise with relevant business units within State Growth, to develop and coordinate policy, legislation, regulations, business rules, system changes, consultation and communication to implement national transport policy reforms in Tasmania.
  • Manage assigned projects which contribute to the development of road safety policies and strategies that take into account the Government’s strategic direction and priorities.
  • Work with external stakeholders and other Government agencies to develop and implement key policy initiatives effectively.
  • Prepare high-level correspondence, reports, Cabinet submissions and briefing material, and (as required) review key policy documents from elsewhere in the Division.

Desirable Requirements

  • Relevant technical or tertiary qualifications and/or practical experience.
